Network Operations Engineer – AWS (Contract)
Location: London
Company: Systematic Hedge Fund
A leading quantitative and systematic investment manager is looking for a Network Operations Engineer to join its AWS Cloud Engineering team. This is a hands-on opportunity to work within a highly technical cloud environment, supporting a global AWS network used by application and infrastructure teams across the business.
The team is responsible for providing a scalable, secure and highly available AWS foundation, with a strong focus on automation, Infrastructure-as-Code and operational excellence. You’ll work closely with senior engineers, application teams, Security and IT to ensure network services remain reliable, well-governed and easy to operate at scale.
The Role
- Operate and support a complex global AWS network across production environments
- Implement network changes using Infrastructure-as-Code, primarily Terraform
- Maintain and enhance Terraform modules to enable consistent, repeatable deployments
- Develop automation and operational tooling using Python and/or Bash
- Execute controlled production changes through CI/CD pipelines, with appropriate testing, validation and peer review
- Assess change risk and implement appropriate testing, impact analysis and rollback strategies
- Troubleshoot AWS connectivity and configuration issues using native and third-party tooling
- Support network-related incidents and service requests from internal stakeholders
- Contribute to monitoring, observability, documentation and operational runbooks
- Identify opportunities to automate repetitive tasks and improve operational processes
- Work alongside senior engineers on the continued evolution and scaling of the AWS platform

The role offers the opportunity to deepen your experience across cloud networking, automation and platform engineering, with exposure to a sophisticated production environment and large-scale AWS infrastructure.
Requirements:
- 2–4 years’ experience within cloud, infrastructure or network operations engineering
- Solid networking fundamentals including IPv4, DNS, TCP/UDP and routing
- Hands-on AWS networking experience, ideally across VPC, Transit Gateway and Route53
- Practical Terraform / Infrastructure-as-Code experience
- Python and/or Bash scripting experience
- Strong troubleshooting skills and a methodical approach to production issues
- Experience working with tickets, incidents and internal stakeholders
- Comfortable operating in a fast-paced, technically demanding environment

Desirable:
- Experience operating AWS networking across multiple environments or regions
- CI/CD and automated deployment experience
- AWS VPC IPAM or Infoblox
- ALB / NLB
- CloudWatch, Grafana or other observability tooling
- AWS VPC Lattice or other newer AWS networking services
