AWS Solution Architect
6-Month Fixed-Term Contract (with strong likelihood of extension) 2 years+
Location: London
Hybrid | SC Clearance Eligible or Active SC Required
Due to clearance requirements, applicants must be eligible for SC Clearance or already hold active SC Clearance. To meet eligibility criteria, candidates must have resided in the UK continuously for the past five years and not have spent three months or longer consecutively outside the UK during that period.
The Opportunity
Sparta Global is seeking an experienced AWS Solution Architect to provide technical leadership across a large-scale cloud platform and help shape its future direction. This is a hands-on architecture role focused on delivery, working closely with engineering teams to design, guide and implement cloud-native solutions.
We're looking for someone who brings experience from multiple AWS environments and can apply proven architectural patterns, best practices and lessons learned to support both immediate delivery needs and long-term platform evolution.
This is not a governance-only or enterprise architecture position. You will be actively involved in technical decision-making, mentoring engineers, reviewing designs and driving architectural excellence throughout delivery.

Key Responsibilities
- Lead architecture and design decisions across the AWS platform.
- Provide expert guidance on AWS best practices and cloud-native solutions.
- Identify opportunities to simplify, modernise and standardise platform capabilities.
- Support engineering teams through design reviews, mentoring and technical leadership.
- Establish reusable patterns, standards and architectural guardrails.
- Reduce technical risk through pragmatic and scalable design approaches.
- Influence future platform roadmaps and strategic technology direction.
- Drive operational excellence, resilience, scalability and cost optimisation.
- Act as a trusted AWS SME, leveraging experience from multiple implementations to guide delivery.
Essential Experience
- Strong experience designing and delivering solutions on AWS in production environments.
- Deep understanding of AWS Well-Architected Framework principles.
- Background in SaaS, platform-based or cloud-native product environments.
- Ability to balance immediate delivery priorities with long-term platform strategy.
- Experience improving platform reliability, observability and operational maturity.
- Strong knowledge of AWS cost optimisation and efficient cloud architecture.
- Proven experience mentoring engineers and developing technical capability.
- Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
- Experience acting as the lead AWS architect or technical authority within delivery teams.
- Understanding of scaling products and platforms through periods of growth.
- Experience working in Agile delivery environments.
- Knowledge of identity, onboarding and platform management services.
- Comfortable collaborating with wider architecture functions while maintaining delivery ownership.
