We're hiring: AWS Technology Lead — Java Modernisation
London (Holborn), hybrid · [Permanent / Contract] · 12–15+ years
NCONS Talent Solutions is looking for a hands-on AWS Technology Lead to take a monolithic Java application running on EC2 and rebuild it as an AWS-native solution.
This is a builder-leader role. You will design the target architecture, write and review code, and lead the engineering team and client conversations from start to finish.
What you'll do
- Analyse the existing monolith (code, dependencies, data) using Kiro and other AI-assisted tools
- Design the target architecture: microservices on ECS/Fargate or EKS, Lambda, API Gateway, event-driven services (SQS, SNS, EventBridge)
- Plan a phased migration (strangler fig pattern) with no disruption to the live system
- Lead database migration and tuning across Aurora PostgreSQL, RDS and DynamoDB
- Build CI/CD and infrastructure as code with Jenkins or GitHub Actions, Docker and Terraform/CloudFormation
- Write and review Java, Spring Boot and TypeScript code
- Run client workshops, present design decisions and mentor engineers across distributed teams

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
Start with a chat, not a search bar
Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
