Role Description
This role is primarily remote, with occasional travel to Manchester required.
We are looking for a hands-on Azure Cloud Engineer to build and run the Azure foundation that our Microsoft 365, Copilot and AI platform depends on. Reporting to the Cloud Solution Architect, you will turn architectural direction into a secure, well-governed and cost-controlled landing zone – the “rails” on which the business safely builds.
This is a delivery and operations role focused on infrastructure, identity, connectivity and automation. You will own the landing zone, Entra ID and group management, the connector catalogue configuration, networking, infrastructure-as-code and the release pipeline, and you will keep the platform stable, secure and cost-efficient as it scales.
Principle Accountabilities:
Azure foundation & landing zone
- Build and operate the Azure landing zone – management groups, subscriptions, Azure Policy, naming and tagging – to Well-Architected and least-privilege standards.
- Implement networking and secure connectivity (virtual networks, private endpoints, firewalls and integration routes) for Azure and platform workloads.
Identity, access & connectors
- Own Entra ID identity and group management, RBAC and conditional-access-aligned least-privilege access that the Copilot and agent platform relies on.
- Configure and govern the Microsoft 365 and Power Platform connector catalogue and data gateways – the governed rails through which agents reach data.

Automation, release & IaC
- Deliver infrastructure as code (Bicep or Terraform) and CI/CD release pipelines (Azure DevOps or GitHub Actions) for repeatable, governed, auditable deployment.
- Automate routine platform operations and apply application-lifecycle-management discipline across environments (dev, test, production).
Cost, security & stability
- Operate FinOps cost controls – budgets, tagging, consumption monitoring and optimisation – across the Azure and platform estate.
- Apply platform security and compliance baselines in partnership with the Senior IT Security Engineer, and maintain monitoring, alerting, patching and operational stability.
- Produce clear technical documentation and support knowledge-sharing across the team.
Skills, Knowledge, and Experience:
Essential
- Strong hands-on experience deploying and operating Azure infrastructure and platform services.
- Solid Entra ID experience – users, groups, RBAC, conditional access and least-privilege design.
- Infrastructure-as-code experience with Bicep or Terraform, and scripting with PowerShell.
- DevOps and CI/CD experience (Azure DevOps or GitHub Actions) and automation practices.
- Azure networking knowledge: virtual networks, private endpoints, DNS, firewalls and secure connectivity.
- Experience configuring Microsoft 365 / Power Platform connectors, data gateways and the associated DLP controls.
- Cloud cost management and optimisation (FinOps) capability.
- A clear communicator who documents clearly and works well with architecture, security and AI engineering colleagues.
Desirable
- Microsoft certifications such as AZ-104 (Administrator) and AZ-400 (DevOps); AZ-305 (Solutions Architect) or SC-300 (Identity & Access Administrator) are advantageous.
- Experience integrating across Microsoft and third-party systems (for example Dynamics and the Power Platform).
- Understanding of cloud security and compliance standards and how they apply to a regulated workforce-solutions business.
- Awareness of the platform requirements of Copilot and AI agents (identity, connectors, networking and cost).
