Senior Azure Data Architect / Data Lead (Insurance)

3 days onsite in Horsham, UK

Contract role

Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Senior Azure Data Architect & Data Lead to lead enterprise-scale data transformation initiatives within the Insurance domain. The ideal candidate will possess deep expertise in Azure Data Platform technologies, strong data architecture capabilities, and proven leadership experience managing data engineering teams, stakeholders, and complex delivery programs. The candidate will be responsible for defining the target-state data architecture, governing data platforms, and driving the successful delivery of data modernization, migration, analytics, and reporting solutions.

Key Responsibilities

Data Leadership

  • Lead end-to-end data strategy, architecture, and delivery across multiple workstreams.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for business and technology stakeholders.
  • Drive data governance, data quality, security, and compliance initiatives.
  • Mentor architects, data engineers, and technical leads.
  • Provide architectural oversight and ensure adherence to enterprise standards.
  • Manage delivery risks, dependencies, and technical roadmaps.

Architecture & Solution Design

  • Define enterprise data architectures, data models, and integration patterns.
  • Design modern data platforms utilizing Azure cloud services.
  • Architect Data Lakes, Data Warehouses, Lakehouse, and Analytics solutions.
  • Develop High-Level Designs (HLD), Low-Level Designs (LLD), and Architecture Blueprints.
  • Establish standards for scalability, performance, resilience, and security.
  • Lead cloud migration and legacy modernization initiatives.

Azure Data Platform

  • Architect and implement solutions using:
    • Azure Databricks
    • Azure Data Factory (ADF)
    • Azure Synapse Analytics
    • Azure SQL Database
    • Azure Data Lake Storage Gen2
    • Microsoft Fabric (desirable)
    • Azure Purview / Microsoft Purview
    • Power BI

Insurance Domain Responsibilities

  • Work closely with business stakeholders across:
    • Policy Administration
    • Underwriting
    • Claims
    • Finance & Actuarial
    • Broker & Agency Systems
    • Regulatory Reporting
  • Lead insurance data migration, transformation, and modernization programs.
  • Define enterprise data models for policy, claims, and finance domains.
  • Ensure compliance with data governance and regulatory requirements.

Domain Experience

  • Strong Insurance domain expertise.
  • Experience with Policy, Claims, Underwriting, Reinsurance, or Finance data.
  • Understanding of regulatory and data governance requirements.
