DevOps Engineer — £35,000+

Full-time | Fully remote | UK-based only

Thornacre Engineering builds secure WordPress and PHP-based websites and digital applications for public sector organizations across the UK.

We’re looking for a DevOps Engineer to take ownership of our cloud infrastructure, deployment pipelines, operational reliability and day-to-day infrastructure security.

You’ll:

  • Manage and maintain our Microsoft Azure infrastructure
  • Build and improve CI/CD pipelines
  • Manage infrastructure using Terraform and other Infrastructure as Code tooling
  • Support Docker-based development and deployment environments
  • Maintain and improve the security, resilience and compliance of our infrastructure
  • Manage identity, permissions, secrets and access controls
  • Implement and maintain vulnerability, dependency and container scanning
  • Monitor application performance, availability, security events and infrastructure health
  • Manage backups, patching, logging, alerting and disaster recovery processes
  • Support developers with deployment, infrastructure and operational security issues
  • Maintain clear infrastructure, security and operational documentation
  • Support remediation following vulnerability scans and penetration testing
  • Improve automation, reliability and security across our environments
  • Work closely with our development team and report to the Technical Director

We’re looking for someone with:

  • Commercial DevOps experience
  • Good experience with Microsoft Azure
  • Experience with Docker and containerized environments
  • Experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines
  • Infrastructure as Code experience, ideally Terraform
  • Strong Linux and networking fundamentals
  • Experience with GitHub Actions and/or Azure DevOps
  • Good understanding of cloud security and least-privilege access
  • Familiarity with vulnerability scanning, secrets management and dependency security
  • Understanding of monitoring, backups, patching and disaster recovery
  • The ability to work independently and take ownership of infrastructure

Salary: £35,000+ per year

Location: Fully remote, but you must be based in the UK
