Azure DevOps Engineer

Roughly 1 day a month in London

Rate: £500/day Inside IR35

Duration: Until 31st March 2027

Sector: NHS programme

Overview

We're looking for an Azure DevOps Engineer to join a major NHS programme. You'll build and run the pipelines and cloud infrastructure behind services used across the health system. This role needs someone who has delivered in NHS or government environments before and understands the standards and assurance that come with them.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, build and maintain CI/CD pipelines in Azure DevOps
  • Provision and manage Azure infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code (Terraform or Bicep)
  • Automate builds, testing and releases across multiple environments
  • Monitor platform health, performance and cost
  • Build security and compliance controls into pipelines and infrastructure
  • Work closely with developers, testers and architects to keep releases smooth
  • Support incident response and troubleshoot issues in live services
  • Document processes, environments and runbooks

Key Requirements

  • Proven experience on NHS or UK government programmes
  • Strong hands-on experience with Azure DevOps pipelines and Repos
  • Solid Azure experience covering compute, networking, storage and identity
  • Infrastructure as Code using Terraform or Bicep
  • Scripting in PowerShell, Bash or Python
  • Experience with containers (Docker) and orchestration (AKS or Kubernetes)
  • A good understanding of security best practice in cloud environments

  • Experience with NHS Digital or NHS England platforms and standards
  • Knowledge of GDS Service Standard and government assurance processes
  • Monitoring tools such as Azure Monitor, Log Analytics or Grafana
