About The Role
The purpose of this role is to own and manage the Azure platform on which IMServ's Astral products are built, tested, and operated. This position is critical in enabling us to deliver highly scalable, secure, multi-tenant SaaS software to clients worldwide. As one of two DevOps Engineers, you will share responsibility for the entire lifecycle of the platform, including environment management, CI/CD pipelines, releases, security, and cost optimization. You will work closely within our Scrum teams, collaborating with Software Engineers, Testers, and the Technical Architect to ensure seamless deployment and operation of our products. Your expertise will help maintain a robust platform that supports our innovative energy data solutions, ensuring reliability, security, and efficiency at every stage.
Qualifications
Essential qualifications include over five years of experience managing production Azure environments, with a strong focus on App Services, Azure SQL, storage, and networking fundamentals. Candidates should have proven experience in designing, building, and maintaining CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps (YAML), along with a solid understanding of infrastructure as code tools such as Bicep, ARM, or Terraform. Proficiency in scripting languages like PowerShell and the Azure CLI is required. A strong appreciation for secure-by-default platform design principles, including Key Vault, managed identities, role-based access control (RBAC), and least privilege, is essential. Additionally, candidates should have hands-on experience with monitoring, backup, and disaster recovery strategies, including incident response and resolution. Familiarity with SQL Server management, Agile SCRUM methodologies, and environment data management is also necessary.

Desirable qualifications include Microsoft certifications such as AZ-104 (Azure Administrator) or AZ-400 (DevOps Engineer Expert). Experience working with Azure PaaS services like Azure Service Bus, Azure Functions, Azure API Management, Logic Apps, Data Factory, Synapse, or Microsoft Fabric is advantageous. Knowledge of C#/.NET for reading application code and debugging, as well as experience consolidating single-tenant deployments into multi-tenant platforms, is preferred. Candidates with experience in enterprise security requirements, such as ISO 27001 controls and penetration test remediation, will stand out. Practical use of AI-assisted tooling in platform and pipeline work is also desirable.
Responsibilities
- Environment management. Provision, configure, and maintain the Astral environment estate—including development, testing, UAT/load, and production environments. Ensure environments are consistent, reproducible, and well-documented through infrastructure as code. Manage environment refreshes and test data in compliance with data protection policies.
- CI/CD pipelines. Build, maintain, and continuously improve Azure DevOps build, test, and release pipelines. This includes artifact management, controlled build configurations, pipeline variables, and automated quality and security gates. Work towards consolidating multiple per-client pipelines into a unified deployment process as the platform evolves into a multi-tenant architecture.
- Release management. Plan and execute deployments through various environment stages to production, with rehearsed rollback procedures for each release. Support product go-lives and maintain a clear, communicated release calendar to ensure smooth transitions.
- Security and access. Manage secrets and certificates using Azure Key Vault and managed identities. Implement role-based access control (RBAC) with a focus on least privilege, oversee platform patching, and collaborate with IT security teams on audit remediation and security release planning.
- Monitoring, reliability, and recovery. Own observability tools such as Application Insights and Log Analytics. Set up alerting, backups, and disaster recovery plans, including periodic disaster recovery tests. Lead incident response efforts for platform issues and conduct blameless root-cause analyses to prevent recurrence.
- Cost management. Monitor and optimize Azure spending across environments and clients. Right-size resources and report on key cost drivers to ensure efficient use of resources and budget adherence.
- Documentation and knowledge sharing. Keep runbooks, environment documentation, and configuration records current by documenting work promptly. Aim to eliminate single points of failure through thorough documentation and knowledge transfer.
- Community membership. Be an active participant within the Scrum team and the wider Product Engineering community. Engage in sprint ceremonies, innovation forums, and team events. Provide prompt support to unblock engineers regarding environment and pipeline needs.
