About The Role
The purpose of the role is to own the Azure platform on which IMServ's Astral products are built, tested, and operated, helping us deliver highly scalable, secure, multi-tenant SaaS software to clients across the globe. You will be one of two DevOps Engineers responsible for managing the path to production, including the Azure environments, CI/CD pipelines, releases, and the security and cost posture of the estate. The pair work collaboratively, sharing the full scope so that no environment, pipeline, or release depends on any single individual. This role sits within our Scrum teams, working closely with Software Engineers, Testers, and the Technical Architect. While they own the code, you own the platform it ships on, overseeing the entire product lifecycle to ensure stability, security, and efficiency.
Qualifications
Essential
- Over 5 years of experience managing production Azure environments, including App Services, Azure SQL, storage solutions, and fundamental networking concepts.
- Proficient in designing, maintaining, and optimizing CI/CD, build, and deployment pipelines using Azure DevOps (YAML), including artifact management, controlled build configurations, and pipeline variables.
- Experienced in implementing infrastructure as code using tools such as Bicep, ARM, or Terraform, and confident scripting in PowerShell and Azure CLI.
- Strong understanding of secure-by-default platform design principles, including Key Vault, managed identities, role-based access control (RBAC), and least privilege policies.
- Hands-on experience owning monitoring, backup, and disaster recovery processes for live services, utilizing Azure Application Insights, Log Analytics, and responding effectively to incidents.
- Familiarity with Agile Scrum methodologies, ceremonies, and artifacts, contributing actively within a Scrum team environment.
- Solid knowledge of SQL Server management, including environment data handling, refreshes, and safe testing of data within a relational database system.

Desirable
- Microsoft certifications such as AZ-104 (Azure Administrator) or AZ-400 (DevOps Engineer Expert).
- Experience supporting or managing Azure PaaS services like Azure Service Bus, Azure Functions, Azure API Management (APIM), Azure Logic Apps, Azure Data Factory, Synapse, or Microsoft Fabric.
- Basic proficiency in C# /.NET to facilitate reading application code and debugging build issues alongside development teams.
- Experience consolidating single-tenant, per-client deployments into a shared, multi-tenant platform.
- Understanding of enterprise client security requirements, including security reviews, ISO 27001 controls, and penetration test remediation.
- Practical experience utilizing AI-assisted tooling for platform and pipeline enhancements.
Responsibilities
Environment Management
- Provision, configure, and maintain the Astral environment estate across development, testing, UAT/load, and production. Ensure environments are consistent, reproducible, and well-documented through infrastructure as code. Manage environment refreshes and test data in compliance with data protection regulations.
CI/CD Pipelines
- Build, maintain, and continuously improve Azure DevOps build, test, and release pipelines. Manage artifacts, build configurations, pipeline variables, and automate quality and security gates. Work towards consolidating per-client pipelines into a unified deployment process as the platform evolves to multi-tenancy.

Release Management
- Plan and execute deployments across environment stages to production, including rehearsed rollback procedures. Support product go-lives and maintain a clear, communicated release calendar to ensure seamless delivery.
Security and Access Control
- Manage secrets and certificates via Azure Key Vault, oversee role-based access control, enforce least privilege policies, and coordinate platform patching. Collaborate with IT security teams on audit remediation and security release planning.
Monitoring, Reliability, and Recovery
- Own platform observability using Application Insights and Log Analytics. Implement alerting, backups, and disaster recovery strategies, including conducting periodic disaster recovery tests. Lead incident response efforts and conduct blameless root cause analyses to improve system resilience.
Cost Management
- Monitor and optimize Azure resource utilization and expenditure. Conduct right-sizing of resources and report on cost drivers to ensure efficient platform operation.
Documentation and Knowledge Sharing
- Maintain up-to-date runbooks, environment documentation, and configuration records. Document work immediately to prevent knowledge gaps and ensure operational continuity.
Community and Team Engagement
- Actively participate in Scrum ceremonies, the broader Product Engineering community, and team events. Support colleagues by quickly addressing environment and pipeline issues to facilitate continuous delivery and improvement.
