About The Role
The primary purpose of this role is to own and manage the Azure platform on which IMServ's Astral products are built, tested, and operated. This role is integral to ensuring the delivery of highly scalable, secure, multi-tenant SaaS software to clients worldwide. As one of two DevOps Engineers, you will collaborate closely with your counterpart to oversee the entire product lifecycle, including Azure environments, CI/CD pipelines, release processes, security, and cost management. You will work within our Scrum teams, engaging daily with Software Engineers, Testers, and the Technical Architect to ensure seamless deployment and operation of our platforms. Your responsibilities will encompass maintaining infrastructure, optimizing deployment pipelines, implementing security best practices, monitoring system health, and driving continuous improvement initiatives to support our innovative energy solutions.
Qualifications
Essential:
- Over 5 years of experience managing production Azure environments, including App Services, Azure SQL, storage solutions, and fundamental networking.
- Proficiency in designing, building, and maintaining CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps (YAML), with experience in artifact management, controlled build configurations, and pipeline variables.
- Strong practice of infrastructure as code (using Bicep, ARM templates, or Terraform) and scripting skills in PowerShell and Azure CLI.
- Deep understanding of secure-by-default platform design principles, including Key Vault, managed identities, role-based access control (RBAC), and least privilege access.
- Experience owning monitoring, backup, and disaster recovery processes for live services, utilizing tools like Application Insights and Log Analytics, with a proven record of incident response and resolution.
- Experience working within Agile Scrum teams, familiar with ceremonies and artifacts associated with the methodology.
- Knowledge of SQL Server management, including environment data handling, refreshes, and safe testing of data within relational database systems.

Desirable
- Microsoft certifications such as AZ-104 (Azure Administrator) or AZ-400 (DevOps Engineer Expert).
- Experience supporting or managing Azure PaaS services like Azure Service Bus, Azure Functions, Azure API Management, Logic Apps, Data Factory, Synapse, or Microsoft Fabric.
- Basic C#/.NET skills to facilitate understanding and debugging application code and build failures.
- Experience transitioning from single-tenant, per-client deployments to shared multi-tenant platforms.
- Knowledge of enterprise security requirements, including supplier security assessments, ISO 27001 controls, and penetration test remediation.
- Utilization of AI-assisted tooling to enhance platform and pipeline development processes.
Responsibilities
- Environment Management: Provision, configure, and maintain the Astral environment estate across development, testing, UAT/load, and production stages. Ensure environments are consistent, reproducible, and well-documented through infrastructure as code. Manage environment refreshes and test data in compliance with data protection policies.
- CI/CD Pipelines: Build, maintain, and continually improve Azure DevOps build, test, and release pipelines. Manage artifacts, build configurations, and pipeline variables, integrating automated quality and security gates. Work towards consolidating client-specific pipelines into a unified deployment process as the platform evolves toward multi-tenancy.
- Release Management: Plan and execute deployments across environments, ensuring smooth transitions to production with rehearsed rollback procedures. Support product go-lives and maintain a transparent release calendar to coordinate activities effectively.
- Security and Access: Manage secrets, certificates, and identity controls using Azure Key Vault and managed identities. Implement role-based access control and enforce least privilege principles across the platform. Collaborate with IT security teams on audit compliance and security release planning.
- Monitoring, Reliability, and Recovery: Own observability solutions such as Application Insights and Log Analytics. Establish alerting mechanisms, backups, and disaster recovery plans, including conducting periodic disaster recovery tests. Lead incident response efforts and facilitate blameless root cause analysis.
- Cost Management: Monitor and optimize Azure spend across all environments and clients. Right-size resources based on usage patterns and report on cost drivers to ensure efficient resource utilization.
- Documentation and Knowledge Sharing: Maintain up-to-date runbooks, environment documentation, and configuration records. Document work immediately to prevent knowledge silos and ensure operational continuity.
- Community Membership: Actively participate in Scrum ceremonies, the wider Product Engineering community, and team events. Provide support to engineers by promptly resolving environment and pipeline issues to facilitate continuous development and deployment.
