About The Company

At IMSERV, we're proud to be one of the UK's leading energy data and metering specialists. We deliver award-winning services to customers across the country, providing specialist metering technology for electricity, gas and water, alongside highly accurate energy data collection services.

About The Role

The purpose of the role is to own the Azure platform on which IMSERV's Astral products are built, tested and run, helping us deliver highly scalable, secure, multi-tenant SaaS software to clients across the globe. You will be one of two DevOps Engineers who together own the path to production: the Azure environments, the CI/CD pipelines, the releases and the security and cost posture of the estate. The pair share the full scope so that no environment, pipeline or release depends on any one individual. This role sits within our Scrum teams, working day to day with Software Engineers, Testers and the Technical Architect. Where they own the code, you own the platform it ships on, through the entire product lifecycle.

Qualifications

Applicants should have at least 5+ years of experience managing production Azure environments, with a strong understanding of App Services, Azure SQL, storage solutions, and networking fundamentals. Proficiency in writing and maintaining CI/CD, build, and deployment pipelines using Azure DevOps (YAML) is essential, along with experience in artifact management, controlled build configurations, and pipeline variables. Candidates must be familiar with infrastructure as code tools such as Bicep, ARM templates, or Terraform, and possess scripting skills in PowerShell and Azure CLI. A solid grasp of secure-by-default platform design principles, including Azure Key Vault, managed identities, RBAC, and least privilege access, is required. Experience in monitoring, backup, disaster recovery, and incident response for live services, using tools like Application Insights and Log Analytics, is also necessary. Familiarity with Agile SCRUM methodologies and related ceremonies is important, as is a good understanding of SQL Server for managing environment data, refreshes, and safe testing data. Desirable qualifications include Microsoft certifications such as AZ-104 (Azure Administrator) or AZ-400 (DevOps Engineer Expert), and experience with Azure PaaS services like Azure Service Bus, Azure Functions, Azure API Management, Azure Logic Apps, or Azure Data Factory/Synapse/Microsoft Fabric. Knowledge of C#/.NET to read application code and assist with debugging, along with experience consolidating single-tenant deployments into multi-tenant platforms, will be advantageous. Additionally, familiarity with enterprise client security requirements, AI-assisted tooling, and penetration test remediation is beneficial.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Responsibilities

The role involves comprehensive environment management, including provisioning, configuring, and maintaining the Astral environment estate across development, test, UAT/load, and production stages. Ensuring environments are consistent, reproducible, and well-documented through infrastructure as code practices is crucial. Managing environment refreshes and test data in compliance with data protection policies is part of the duties. Building, maintaining, and continuously improving Azure DevOps CI/CD pipelines is key, with a focus on artifact management, controlled build configurations, pipeline variables, and automated quality and security gates. Consolidating individual client pipelines into a unified deployment process as the platform evolves to multi-tenancy is also expected. Deployment planning and execution, including rehearsed rollback procedures and supporting product go-lives, are essential responsibilities, alongside maintaining a clear release calendar. Ownership of security protocols includes secrets and certificate management via Azure Key Vault, managed identities, role-based access control, and platform patching, in collaboration with IT security teams. Monitoring the platform’s health and reliability through observability tools, managing backups, disaster recovery tests, and leading incident response activities are vital for maintaining system stability. Cost management involves monitoring and optimizing Azure spend, right-sizing resources, and reporting on cost drivers. Maintaining up-to-date documentation, runbooks, environment configurations, and knowledge sharing within the team ensures operational resilience. Active participation in Scrum ceremonies, the wider Product Engineering community, and team events promotes collaboration and continuous improvement. Providing prompt support to engineers for environment and pipeline needs is also part of the role.
