About The Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced DevSecOps Engineer to join a high-profile UK MOD digital transformation programme. This role is pivotal in ensuring the security, automation, and efficiency of digital products deployed across multiple cloud environments within the MOD digital landscape. As a Lead DevSecOps Engineer, you will work closely with a leading technology partner to develop, implement, and govern secure DevSecOps practices that align with MOD security standards. This is a remote contract position lasting six months or longer, offering an excellent opportunity to contribute to a significant national security project. The successful candidate must hold an active SC security clearance to be eligible for this role.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in DevSecOps with proven leadership experience. Essential qualifications include hands-on expertise in cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, and Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, along with proficiency in tools like Terraform, Kubernetes, Docker, and GitOps methodologies. Candidates should have experience with security and compliance controls, vulnerability management, and automation frameworks. Knowledge of HashiCorp Vault, observability tools such as Grafana and Loki, and scripting languages like Python and Bash is also required. Additionally, the candidate must demonstrate excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, with experience working across distributed engineering teams, preferably within UK Government or GDS delivery environments.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and embed DevSecOps engineering practices across multiple MOD digital products, ensuring secure and efficient software delivery.
  • Design, implement, and govern secure CI/CD and GitOps pipelines, integrating security scanning, vulnerability management, and compliance controls.
  • Drive Infrastructure as Code initiatives using Terraform to automate provisioning and management of cloud resources.
  • Work extensively with Kubernetes, Docker, and AWS EKS to orchestrate containerized applications.
  • Implement secrets management, identity, and access controls utilizing technologies such as HashiCorp Vault.
  • Establish comprehensive observability, monitoring, logging, and audit mechanisms to ensure system integrity and security.
  • Develop secure-by-design engineering practices aligned with MOD security requirements and standards.
  • Coordinate efforts among DevSecOps engineers, developers, testers, and infrastructure teams to foster collaboration and continuous improvement.
  • Create, maintain, and update security processes, technical standards, and operational runbooks to support ongoing security posture.
  • Support incident response activities, patch management, risk assessments, and compliance audits to maintain system security and resilience.
