About The Role
The purpose of the role is to own the Azure platform on which IMSERV's Astral products are built, tested and run, helping us deliver highly scalable, secure, multi-tenant SaaS software to clients across the globe. You will be one of two DevOps Engineers who together own the path to production: the Azure environments, the CI/CD pipelines, the releases and the security and cost posture of the estate. The pair share the full scope so that no environment, pipeline or release depends on any one individual. This role sits within our Scrum teams, working day to day with Software Engineers, Testers and the Technical Architect. Where they own the code, you own the platform it ships on, through the entire product lifecycle.
Qualifications
Essential qualifications include over 5 years of experience managing production Azure environments, with proficiency in App Services, Azure SQL, storage solutions, and networking fundamentals. Candidates should have a strong background in designing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps (YAML), including artifact management, build configurations, and pipeline variables. Experience with infrastructure as code tools such as Bicep, ARM templates, or Terraform is required, along with scripting skills in PowerShell and Azure CLI. A solid understanding of secure-by-default platform design principles—such as Azure Key Vault, managed identities, role-based access control, and least privilege—is essential. Additionally, candidates should have owned monitoring, backup, and disaster recovery processes, including incident response and resolution. Familiarity with Agile SCRUM methodologies and related ceremonies is necessary, as well as a good grasp of SQL Server for managing environment data, refreshes, and testing data securely. Desirable qualifications include Microsoft certifications such as AZ-104 or AZ-400, experience with Azure PaaS services like Azure Service Bus, Functions, API Management, Logic Apps, Data Factory, Synapse, or Microsoft Fabric. Knowledge of C#/.NET for code reading and debugging, experience consolidating single-tenant deployments into multi-tenant platforms, understanding of enterprise security requirements, and practical use of AI-assisted tooling in platform and pipeline work are also advantageous.

Responsibilities
- Environment management. Provision, configure, and maintain the Astral environment estate—including development, testing, UAT/load, and production environments—ensuring consistency, reproducibility, and comprehensive documentation through infrastructure as code. Manage environment refreshes and test data in accordance with data protection policies.
- CI/CD pipelines. Build, maintain, and continuously improve Azure DevOps build, test, and release pipelines. This includes artifact management, controlled build configurations, pipeline variables, and automated quality and security gates. Work towards consolidating per-client pipelines into a unified deployment process as the platform evolves to support multi-tenancy.
- Release management. Plan and execute deployments across environment stages to production, including rehearsed rollback procedures for each release. Support product go-lives and maintain a clear, well-communicated release calendar.
- Security and access. Manage secrets and certificates using Azure Key Vault, oversee role-based access control, enforce least privilege policies, and handle platform patching. Collaborate with IT security teams on audit remediation and security release planning.
- Monitoring, reliability, and recovery. Own observability tools such as Application Insights and Log Analytics, set up alerting mechanisms, manage backups, and oversee disaster recovery processes, including periodic testing. Lead incident response efforts and conduct blameless root-cause analyses to prevent recurrence.
- Cost management. Monitor Azure resource utilization and costs across environments and clients, optimize resource allocation, and report on cost drivers to ensure efficient spending.
- Documentation and knowledge sharing. Maintain up-to-date runbooks, environment documentation, and configuration records, ensuring work is documented immediately after completion. Focus on eliminating single points of failure and enhancing team knowledge.
- Community membership. Actively participate in Scrum ceremonies, the wider Product Engineering community, and team events. Assist colleagues by quickly resolving environment and pipeline issues to facilitate smooth development workflows.
