Azure Platform Engineer - Operations & Reliability
£50,000 - £60,000 + Bonus + On Call allowance + Benefits | UK | Fully Remote
Overview
We're looking for an Azure Platform Engineer to join a growing Managed Services team supporting secure, business-critical platforms for public-sector and highly regulated organisations.
You'll combine complex L2/L3 incident resolution with proactive engineering, automation, and continual service improvement. Working across Azure infrastructure and platform services, you'll help keep customer environments reliable, secure, and highly available.
This is a hands-on technical position, not a high-volume service-desk role. You'll have the opportunity to investigate challenging issues, improve monitoring and automation, and work closely with software and cloud engineering teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide L2/L3 support for production Azure environments, taking ownership of incidents through to resolution.
- Monitor platform health and investigate issues using Azure Monitor, Application Insights, Log Analytics, alerting, and KQL.
- Operate and support Azure PaaS services such as App Service, Functions, Logic Apps, Storage Accounts, Azure SQL, Service Bus, Event Grid, and API Management.
- Perform root-cause analysis across infrastructure, platform, application, and integration layers.
- Implement permanent fixes and identify opportunities to improve platform reliability, performance, and security.
- Support Azure DevOps pipelines, release management, and Infrastructure as Code deployments across development, test, and production environments.
- Troubleshoot Azure networking and connectivity, including hub-and-spoke environments, firewalls, application gateways, private endpoints, DNS, VPNs, and ExpressRoute.
- Help maintain identity, security, and governance controls using services such as RBAC, PIM, Azure Policy, Key Vault, and Microsoft Defender for Cloud.
- Work with software development teams to analyse telemetry and resolve issues affecting cloud-native applications.
- Improve automation, monitoring, operational documentation, and support processes.
- Participate in the team's on-call arrangements, with an additional allowance.

Skills & Experience
- Professional experience supporting production Microsoft Azure environments.
- Hands-on knowledge of Azure infrastructure and several Azure PaaS services.
- Experience investigating incidents using Azure monitoring, logging, and alerting tools.
- A practical understanding of Azure networking, identity, and security.
- Experience with Azure DevOps, Git-based source control, CI/CD pipelines, or release management.
- Experience using Infrastructure as Code tools such as Bicep, ARM templates, or Terraform.
- A structured approach to incident management, root-cause analysis, and problem-solving.
- Strong communication skills and experience working with technical teams and stakeholders.
- Experience in an ITIL-aligned, Managed Services, or similarly structured operational environment.
- Eligibility to obtain UK SC clearance.
