B2B Energy Sales Consultant – Outbound Telesales
£30,000 – £55,000 + Uncapped Commission (£140,000 Average Earnings)
Preston, Lancashire | Full-time | Monday – Friday, 9am – 5pm
★ OPENING JANUARY 2027 — INTERVIEWS FROM LATE SEPTEMBER 2026 ★
As one of our Energy Consultants, you will run your own book end to end — prospecting, qualifying, pitching, negotiating, and closing. The pipeline is yours; the relationships are yours, and the commission is entirely yours! It’s a more challenging path than working within a team structure, and it’s not for everyone. But if you are self-sufficient, commercially aware, confident, and motivated by ownership, it’s one of the most rewarding models on the Northern Gas and Power sales floor.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Prospecting and pipeline building: making 50–80+ outbound calls per day to identify and engage new business opportunities through cold-calling
- Full sales cycle ownership: from first conversation to signed contract, including pricing discussions, supplier negotiations, and tender management. You create your own pipeline through cold calling
- Account management and renewals: building long-term customer relationships that enhance your reputation and NGP’s
- Commercial decision-making: advising customers on procurement strategy, contract timing, market conditions, and risk management
- Working with the trading and procurement desk to structure competitive offers and navigate supplier dynamics
What Makes It Rewarding
- You control your own income. Every deal you close is fully yours, no commission-sharing!
- Your pipeline and reputation compound. You become the go-to person for your clients, potentially winning more business via referrals and renewals
- You’re supported, not micromanaged. You’ll be mentored by experienced managers and coaches with the full trading desk behind you. In a competitive environment, this is exactly what you need to drive your success!
- Progression is based on performance, not tenure — progression from consultant to closer and beyond is possible with hard work
What’s In It for You
- Uncapped commission
- 23 days holiday + additional December leave (fully paid December off) + bank holidays
- Access to Simply health (money towards dental care, eyesight checks, physio, etc.)
- EV salary sacrifice scheme
- Access to gyms and on-site fitness facilities
- £2,000 Refer a Friend bonus
- Exciting incentives for excellent performers (so far this year, we’ve sent our people for VIP experiences to: Monaco Grand Prix, Tomorrowland, Champions League matches, Royal Ascot, Wimbledon to name a few…)

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
Start with a chat, not a search bar
Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Why Preston?
- You’ll be part of the founding team at our brand-new Preston office — Premium city-centre workspace with air conditioning throughout, meeting rooms, breakout areas, and modern technology
- Preston is one of the fastest-growing cities in the North West, with excellent transport links (M6, M55, M61), a mainline railway station, and a vibrant city centre with cafés, restaurants, and bars on your doorstep
- No more commuting to Bolton, Blackpool, or Kirkham — if you’re in Lancashire, this is the energy sales role on your doorstep
- Ground-floor opportunity: shape the culture, set the standards, and build something from Day 1 — the people who start here will be the leaders of tomorrow
- Same pay, same benefits, same technology, same support as our Gateshead HQ — but in your backyard
- 40+ parking spaces, or a short walk from Preston station
Your First 90 Days
- Weeks 1–3: Intensive training on energy markets, procurement processes, CRM systems, and NGP’s commercial approach. You’ll shadow experienced ECs and spend time with the trading team to accelerate your learning.
- Weeks 4–8: You’re prospecting with support. Your manager and coaches review your pipeline, sales strategy, and help you structure your first proposals to get those early wins.
- Weeks 9–12: You’re operating independently with a growing pipeline. First commissions land.
This is for you, if:
- You have at least 1–3 years of B2B sales experience, ideally in the energy sector, having managed your own pipeline end-to-end
- You’re self-motivated and commercially sharp — you can manage a sales cycle from prospecting through to close
- You’re comfortable building relationships over the phone and face-to-face with finance directors, energy managers, and C-suite decision-makers
- You want ownership — your clients, your commission, your career trajectory
- You are coachable, competitive, and motivated by both recognition and financial reward
