I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

What you’ll be doing
- Proactively calling prospective business clients to introduce the firm’s services.
- Speaking with business owners and decision-makers to understand their accounting and tax needs.
- Explaining the value of the firm’s services clearly and confidently.
- Qualifying opportunities and booking consultations for the partners.
- Following up prospects through calls, email and LinkedIn.
- Building and maintaining an organised pipeline with accurate CRM records.
- Working towards agreed activity, appointment and new-business targets.
- Bringing ideas for reaching new prospects and developing business opportunities.
What we’re looking for
- You’ll have previous experience in B2B telesales, outbound sales, telemarketing or appointment setting, with the confidence to pick up the phone and start conversations.
- You should be comfortable handling objections, following up and staying motivated when a prospect says no.
- You’ll also be organised enough to manage your own day and keep opportunities moving without constant supervision.
- Some knowledge of accounting, tax, bookkeeping or payroll services would be an advantage, as would experience selling to construction or real estate businesses. These are desirable rather than essential; strong outbound sales ability is the priority.
