We’re looking for an experienced health and safety professional to help advise, guide and keep our colleagues safe so that we can deliver important benefits that really make a difference to the people of Scotland. The Health and Safety Team provides professional advice and support to key stakeholders throughout Social Security Scotland, supporting its values of dignity, fairness and respect. We are developing an integrated approach to health, safety and wellbeing whilst promoting a positive organisational culture and driving continuous improvement.
You will be responsible for the maintenance and continuous improvement of the organisation's safety management system, set out in the organisation's Health and Safety Policy and Health, Safety and Wellbeing Strategy. This is a varied and rewarding role where you'll help promote a positive culture of health, safety and wellbeing across a multi-site organisation. Supporting colleagues in Dundee, Glasgow, at home and in the community. You'll provide expert advice on topics including risk assessment, fire safety and lone working.
Through monitoring performance and analysing data you will identify opportunities for improvement to strengthen our approach to health, safety and wellbeing. This will support our colleagues to work safely and effectively wherever they are.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsibilities
- Lead the development and implementation of objectives and action plans to improve the health and safety management system across the organisation.
- Provide health and safety advice, guidance and support to managers and colleagues at all levels.
- Lead and support the implementation and delivery of key health and safety related projects and initiatives across all areas of the business, implementing controls to manage risks including lone working, fire safety and stress at work.
- Ensure effective policies and procedures are developed and implemented to align with our risk profile, to include risk assessments, accident/incident investigations, inspections and audits.
- Implement and support active and reactive methods of monitoring to improve performance management within the organisation.
- Build relationships and liaise with key stakeholders, ensuring effective communications and management influence at all levels of the organisation.
- Support the development of an inclusive health, safety and wellbeing culture that aligns with our business priorities, culture and values.
- Manage the day-to-day operation of the Health and Safety team on behalf of the Health and Safety Lead. Undertaking any other duties assigned by the Health and Safety Lead.
QUALIFICATIONS
Qualifications The successful candidate must be a Chartered member of IOSH, or a Certified Member willing to undertake work towards Chartered membership within 2 years.

Working Pattern
Our standard hours are 35 hours per week and we offer a range of flexible working options, depending on the needs of the role. We embrace a hybrid working style where all colleagues will spend time in either our Glasgow or Dundee offices. There is an expectation of a minimum 2 days per week in your assigned location, which will be either Glasgow or Dundee.
