Python Software Engineer – SC Cleared – Contract
📍 Predominantly remote (UK based only)
📅 September start – initially until mid-December
💼 Inside IR35
🔐 Active SC clearance required
We’re looking for an experienced, hands-on Python Software Engineer to join a new project within the UK National Security space. You’ll be part of a small engineering team building a new data-driven web application from the ground up, taking ownership across the application lifecycle – from ingesting data from external APIs through to backend development, data storage, cloud infrastructure and deployment.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Building a new web application from scratch using Python
- Designing and developing backend services and APIs
- Ingesting and processing data from external APIs and data sources
- Designing and implementing appropriate database/data storage solutions
- Building and maintaining cloud infrastructure
- Taking solutions from initial PoC through to robust, production-quality software
- Implementing CI/CD, testing and deployment processes
- Working closely with Data Scientists to integrate analysis and ML tooling
- Collaborating directly with technical and non-technical stakeholders in a consultancy environment
- Potentially contributing across the frontend where required

What We’re Looking For

- Strong commercial Python software engineering experience
- Backend development using FastAPI, Django, Flask or similar
- Experience building applications/services from scratch
- Strong experience designing and integrating REST APIs
- Experience with data ingestion and processing
- Good database knowledge – PostgreSQL, SQL and/or NoSQL
- Cloud engineering experience, ideally AWS
- Docker, CI/CD and modern DevOps practices
- Infrastructure as Code experience, e.g. Terraform, beneficial
- Frontend experience with React/TypeScript/JavaScript beneficial
- Enough ML/data literacy to work effectively alongside Data Scientists
- Strong customer/stakeholder communication skills
