Backend Developer – Java / Spring Boot
We’re looking for an experienced Backend Developer / Java Engineer to join a high-performing engineering team building large-scale, customer-facing applications.
This is an opportunity to work on modern backend systems where Java, Spring Boot, and microservices are central to the technology stack. You’ll be involved in designing and developing scalable services, solving complex technical challenges, and delivering features that have a tangible impact on customers.
The role
You’ll work across the full backend development lifecycle, from technical design and implementation through to deployment and continuous improvement. You’ll be working with distributed systems and large-scale applications, collaborating closely with other engineers and technical stakeholders.

Key skills and experience:
- Strong commercial experience with Java and Spring Boot
- Proven experience developing microservices and distributed systems
- Experience building customer-facing applications
- Strong experience with SQL and/or NoSQL databases
- Experience working with large-scale applications, ideally supporting 10,000+ users
- Experience with AWS, Kubernetes, and Docker
- Good understanding of CI/CD and Git, ideally including GitLab CI/CD
- Kafka experience would be advantageous
- A strong technical background in Java backend development and distributed systems
- Evidence of delivering measurable improvements, features, or business/customer outcomes

Desirable:
- Experience within FinTech, financial services, or payments
- Experience working with Kafka/event-driven architectures
- Experience operating highly available, high-volume applications
- Experience working in modern Agile engineering environments
