Backend Platform Engineer

Location: London, UK
Work Model: Fully Onsite – 5 Days per Week
Contract: 6 Months Initially, with a strong possibility of extension
Experience: 6–14 years overall, with 6+ years relevant experience
Working Hours: 40 hours/week
Start Date: ASAP / Immediate

Role Overview

We are looking for an experienced Backend Platform Engineer to join a major financial services technology programme in London.

The role sits across Platform Engineering, DevOps, Developer Experience, and Backend Engineering, with a strong focus on building and enhancing enterprise CI/CD platforms, integrating SDLC controls, and enabling development teams to deliver software in a secure, compliant, and controlled environment.

The successful candidate will have strong hands-on experience with Jenkins, Kubernetes, AWS, Java, Python, Docker, Helm, and CI/CD, together with an understanding of enterprise SDLC and change-management processes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain backend platform engineering solutions.
  • Build and enhance enterprise CI/CD pipelines and automation frameworks.
  • Manage Jenkins environments and develop reusable Jenkins pipeline libraries.
  • Develop and support Java-based backend services and REST APIs.
  • Implement and maintain containerized applications using Docker.
  • Deploy and manage workloads on Kubernetes platforms.
  • Develop and maintain Helm charts for Kubernetes deployments.
  • Support Maven/Gradle-based Java application builds.
  • Integrate enterprise control and compliance systems into SDLC pipelines.
  • Implement SDLC and change-management controls within development and deployment processes.
  • Support the introduction of new environments and technologies into existing SDLC processes.
  • Enhance pipeline libraries to support compliant and standardized software delivery.
  • Support onboarding of Product Engineering teams onto controls-compliant CI/CD pipelines.
  • Troubleshoot build, deployment, environment, and pipeline issues.
  • Develop automation using Python where required.
  • Produce technical documentation, runbooks, and knowledge-transfer materials.
  • Work closely with engineering and platform teams in a highly regulated environment.
