About The Role
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Back-End Engineer to join our team. This role is pivotal in owning complex, real-world problems from end-to-end, shaping how the team develops and maintains critical components of our platform. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing API endpoints, data models, and building scalable, reliable backend services that support multi-currency transactions, onboarding processes, compliance checks, and settlement operations. You will play a key role in modernizing our backend infrastructure, leading the delivery of new capabilities as Xe rebuilds its platform layer. Working closely with product managers, compliance teams, and operations, you will own architecture within your domain, lead technical design reviews, mentor mid-level engineers, and collaborate with architects and team leads on cross-domain decisions. Your expertise in AI tools will be leveraged daily to enhance development efficiency and code quality, as we transition legacy systems into a modern stack.

Qualifications
- 6 to 10+ years of experience building production-grade backend services from end to end
- Proficiency in C# /.NET preferred; experience with Java, Kotlin, Go, or similar OOP languages
- Strong understanding of SQL and relational database fundamentals
- Experience writing and maintaining comprehensive automated tests
- Hands-on experience deploying and managing services on AWS, including CI/CD pipelines and modern deployment practices
- Familiarity with AWS native services such as SQS, DynamoDB, S3, ECS, and Lambda
- Deep knowledge of system design and architecture, including microservices, service-oriented, and event-driven patterns
- Experience in payments, FX, or regulated industries is highly desirable
- Proven track record of technical leadership, mentoring, and decision-making within engineering teams
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and own backend services that facilitate money movement and manage multi-currency balances across various domains including onboarding, KYC/KYB, payment initiation, FX, and settlement
- Lead cross-functional teams to deliver projects from problem framing through to deployment and launch, collaborating closely with product, compliance, and operations teams
- Build and maintain partner integrations and settlement infrastructure critical to the platform’s operation
- Ensure the reliability, observability, and overall health of your domain's production environment, including incident response and on-call support
- Conduct design reviews, establish technical direction, and mentor mid-level engineers to foster growth and ensure best practices
- Utilize AI-powered coding tools daily to enhance development workflows and lead modernization efforts from legacy systems to modern architectures
- Partner with architects and team leads to implement scalable, secure, and efficient backend solutions aligned with business goals
