What This Role Is All About

Would you like to work on cutting edge premium care support products and progress your career within a friendly and informal environment?

We are looking for a Backend Software Developer to help design, develop and maintain the next generation of our flagship products. You’ll play a key role in building scalable backend services, APIs and cloud-based applications while supporting and enhancing our existing software platform.

This role is primarily focused on backend development using C# and .NET with involvement in full stack development where required. You’ll work closely with front end developers and other members of the IT team to deliver robust, maintainable and high-performing solutions.

Your Key Areas of Focus

As a.NET backend developer, you will contribute to the architecture, design, development and support of current and future software products.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Designing and developing scalable backend services and APIs using C#
  • Developing clean, maintainable and well-tested code following SOLID principles and industry best practices
  • Designing and optimising relational database structures and queries
  • Building integrations with third-party systems and services using REST APIs and JSON/XML
  • Supporting cloud-hosted applications and contributing to performance, reliability and scalability improvements
  • Collaborating with front end developers to deliver complete end-to-end solutions
  • Participating in code reviews and helping establish engineering best practises
  • Troubleshooting, debugging and resolving production issues
  • Contributing to architectural discussions and continuous improvement of development processes
  • Continuously learning new technologies and sharing knowledge with the wider team

What We’re Looking For

  • Commercial experience with C# and.NET /.NET Framework
  • Strong understanding of object-orientated programming, SOLID principles and software design patterns
  • Experience designing and developing RESTful APIs
  • Strong SQL skills with experience of MySQL or similar relational databases
  • Experience integrating with external systems using JSON and XML
  • Experience writing automated unit tests (xUnit, NUnit, MSTest or similar)
  • Understanding of software architecture and development best practises
  • Experience using Git for source control
  • Designing and developing secure applications by applying secure coding principles, OWAPS guidance and security best practices
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently or within a collaborative team
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver high-quality solutions to agreed deadlines
  • Good knowledge of HTML, CSS, Javascript and experience with a modern frontend framework such as Vue to support full stack collaboration
  • Jira or similar Agile project management tools
  • CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practises
  • NoSQL databases such as MongoDB
  • Experience developing and deploying applications on AWS, including services such as ECS, EC2, RDS, S3, Lambda, IAM and API Gateway
