About the Role

At voco Grand Central Glasgow, we’re looking for a reliable, hands-on and hardworking Back of House Porter to join our Conference & Events team on a full-time, permanent basis and play a key role in bringing our conferences, weddings, celebrations and events to life.

Set within one of Glasgow’s most iconic hotels, our impressive event spaces host everything from intimate meetings and private dinners to large-scale conferences, weddings and gala events. No two days are quite the same, and behind every great event is a team making sure every detail is exactly where it needs to be.

You’ll play an important role behind the scenes, helping to make sure our event spaces are set up, maintained and ready to deliver a great experience for our guests. From moving furniture and setting up rooms to supporting events as they run, you’ll be part of a busy team where no two days are the same.

What you’ll be doing

  • Set up and breakdown Conference & Events spaces, including furniture, staging, dance floors, AV equipment, signage and event décor.
  • Move and position equipment and furniture safely and efficiently.
  • Ensure event spaces are clean, tidy, well-presented and ready on time.
  • Support room changes and turnaround of event spaces throughout the day.
  • Work closely with the Conference & Events and Banqueting teams to ensure events run smoothly.
  • Respond quickly and positively to changes in event requirements.
  • Provide a warm, professional and helpful service to clients, organisers and guests when required.
  • Ensure all equipment is handled safely and report any issues or damage promptly.
  • Maintain high standards of health & safety and follow hotel procedures at all times.
  • Support the wider hotel team wherever required during busy periods.

What we’re looking for

  • Previous experience in Conference & Events, Banqueting, hospitality or a similar hands-on environment would be an advantage.
  • A practical, proactive approach and willingness to get stuck in.
  • Good organisation and time-management skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and pride in delivering high standards.
  • Someone who works well as part of a team and is happy to support colleagues.
  • Good communication skills and a professional approach to guests and colleagues.
  • Physically fit and comfortable with a role that involves moving furniture and equipment.
  • Someone who stays calm and flexible in a busy environment.
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends and public holidays as required.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
