About The Role
We are seeking an experienced Backend Developer / Software Engineer to join our high-growth team. In this role, you will be instrumental in developing and enhancing our core messaging platform that supports millions of real-time interactions globally. Your primary focus will be on designing and implementing highly scalable distributed systems, ensuring optimal performance, reliability, and fault tolerance. You will work on key components such as low latency messaging, Pub/Sub services, state synchronization, and next-generation AI communication infrastructure. This position offers the opportunity to work in a modern, AI-first engineering environment, leveraging the latest tools and technologies to accelerate development while maintaining high standards of code quality and architectural integrity. The role provides flexibility with remote or hybrid working arrangements, with occasional visits to our North London office for team events and collaborations.

Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess strong backend development experience with languages such as Go, Node.js, or other modern server-side technologies. A solid understanding of building and operating distributed systems, messaging platforms, event-driven architectures, or streaming technologies is essential. Experience with Pub/Sub messaging systems, scalability, concurrency, and performance optimization is highly desirable. Candidates should be comfortable working autonomously in a fast-paced environment and have a passion for solving complex technical challenges. Familiarity with AI development tools and maintaining a focus on engineering quality is advantageous. Knowledge of Kafka, RabbitMQ, NATS, cloud infrastructure, or developer platforms will be considered a plus. A proactive attitude, excellent problem-solving skills, and a commitment to delivering production-grade software are key attributes for success in this role.
Responsibilities
As a Backend Developer / Software Engineer, your responsibilities will include:
- Designing, developing, and maintaining scalable distributed systems that form the backbone of our real-time messaging platform.
- Collaborating with cross-functional teams to define technical requirements and implement solutions that enhance system performance and reliability.
- Optimizing low latency messaging, developing Pub/Sub services, and working on state synchronization mechanisms.
- Contributing to the architecture and technical decision-making process, ensuring the software remains robust, secure, and efficient.
- Leveraging modern AI tools to streamline development workflows and improve system capabilities.
- Participating in code reviews, writing comprehensive documentation, and mentoring junior team members.
- Continuous improvement and innovation to stay ahead of industry trends.
