About The Role
We are seeking a skilled Backend Developer / AI Engineer to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will be instrumental in building and maintaining the backend infrastructure that powers our AI-driven platform. Your responsibilities will include:
- Developing reliable backend services that support our AI assistants
- Optimizing search functionalities for large knowledge bases
- Integrating various language models and AI providers while adhering to strict data privacy standards
- Working closely with frontend, data, and AI teams to design scalable architectures
- Ensuring high performance and maintaining data security and privacy compliance, particularly within the scope of GDPR

Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have several years of experience in backend development, with proficiency in modern, type-safe programming languages such as Go, Rust, Java, or C#. You should possess a strong understanding of:
- API design
- Real-time and streaming interfaces
- Concurrent programming techniques to optimize performance
- Experience with semantic search, AI-based retrieval systems, and handling large data volumes
- Familiarity with integrating AI and language model services, container technologies, Linux environments, version control, and CI/CD pipelines
- Solid knowledge of relational and search/vector databases
- A keen awareness of data privacy, security, and multi-tenant architecture
You should demonstrate an independent, structured working style, with excellent communication skills in German, and a passion for teamwork and continuous learning.
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain backend services supporting our AI assistants, ensuring reliable access to knowledge bases for various client projects.
- Enhance search functionalities to accurately retrieve and present relevant content, ensuring speed and efficiency even with large datasets.
- Manage the integration of language models (LLMs) and prepare data inputs required for optimal AI performance.
- Ensure compliance with data privacy regulations, especially GDPR, by implementing secure data handling and access controls.
- Design scalable and robust system architectures in collaboration with frontend, data, and AI teams.
- Optimize backend performance, including API responsiveness and system stability under high load conditions.
- Maintain clean separation of client data, enforce access rights, and uphold data security standards across multi-tenant environments.
- Stay up-to-date with the latest developments in AI, backend technologies, and data protection regulations to continuously improve platform capabilities.
