About The Role
We are seeking an experienced Backend Developer with a strong background in Azure cloud services to join our dynamic team on a 3-month remote contract outside IR35. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work on a mature Azure-based backend platform within the healthcare domain, contributing to connected patient services that have a meaningful impact on people's lives. The ideal candidate will possess a proactive mindset, capable of working independently with minimal supervision, and will own the end-to-end technical delivery of assigned tasks. You will be involved in designing, developing, testing, deploying, and supporting backend services, ensuring high availability, scalability, and security of our healthcare platform.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background with proven experience in the following areas:
- Proficiency in C# and.NET 6+ frameworks, with a solid understanding of dependency injection, SOLID principles, and clean architecture.
- Hands-on experience working with Azure Functions, including triggers, bindings, and patterns such as fan-out/fan-in.
- Expertise in designing and managing REST APIs using Azure API Management with a focus on security and scalability.
- Deep understanding of Azure Service Bus for message-driven processing, including error handling, retries, and dead-letter queues.
- Strong skills in Azure SQL, including stored procedures, schema design, query optimization, and performance tuning.
- Experience with Azure DevOps for CI/CD pipeline creation, automation, and deployment management.
- Operational experience with monitoring tools like Application Insights and Azure Monitor for proactive issue resolution.
- Excellent communication skills, capable of documenting technical work clearly for both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Proven ability to work independently, owning tasks from conception through deployment and support, demonstrating accountability and initiative.
- Availability and responsiveness during UK core hours (9am-5pm GMT/BST).
- Disciplined approach to testing, with automated tests as an integral part of development.
- Experience working within Agile Scrum methodologies, participating fully in planning, reviews, and retrospectives.

Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Developing and delivering backend services utilizing C#,.NET 6+ and Azure Functions, ensuring robust and scalable solutions.
- Building and maintaining data access, orchestration, and notification services following clean architecture principles and dependency injection patterns.
- Maintaining and optimizing Azure SQL stored procedures, schemas, and data access patterns within a mature production environment.
- Designing and implementing event-driven integrations using Azure Service Bus, including message ingestion, transformation, and error handling.
- Designing, developing, and consuming REST APIs via Azure API Management, ensuring secure and efficient endpoints.
- Writing comprehensive automated unit and integration tests to ensure code quality and reliability.
- Owning and managing CI/CD pipelines and deployment automation using Azure DevOps, facilitating smooth release cycles.
- Monitoring production services through Application Insights and Azure Monitor, diagnosing issues proactively, and implementing fixes.
- Participating in incident response, root cause analysis, and implementing technical improvements based on findings.
- Identifying and addressing technical debt, delivering targeted improvements within sprint capacity.
- Collaborating closely with Product Owners to clarify requirements, define acceptance criteria, and ensure technical feasibility.
- Engaging in Agile ceremonies including estimation, planning, reviews, and retrospectives to promote continuous delivery and improvement.
