About The Role
We are seeking an experienced Backend Developer specialized in Azure to join our dynamic team on a 3-month remote contract outside IR35. This role involves working on a mature Azure-based backend platform that supports connected patient services within a digital healthcare environment. The successful candidate will take ownership of the full software lifecycle, from initial design and development to testing, deployment, and ongoing production support. This is a hands-on position requiring strong technical expertise, independence, and the ability to deliver end-to-end solutions with minimal supervision.
The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of developing scalable backend services using C#,.NET 6+, and Azure cloud services. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including product owners and DevOps engineers, to ensure the delivery of high-quality, reliable, and secure backend systems. Your contribution will directly impact the functionality and reliability of healthcare services, making this a highly rewarding opportunity for a developer passionate about healthcare technology and cloud-native development.

- Proficiency in C# and.NET 6+ with extensive experience in building production-grade applications.
- Hands-on experience with Azure Functions, including triggers, bindings, and serverless patterns.
- Solid understanding of Azure SQL, including stored procedures, schema design, and performance optimization.
- Experience with Azure Service Bus for event-driven architectures, message processing, and error handling.
- Knowledge of Azure API Management for designing and securing RESTful APIs.
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps, including automation, testing, and deployment strategies.
- Familiarity with application monitoring tools such as Application Insights and Azure Monitor for operational diagnostics.
- Strong communication skills, capable of documenting technical work clearly for both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Proven ability to work independently, owning projects from conception through to deployment and maintenance.
- Availability and responsiveness during UK core hours (9am-5pm GMT/BST).
- Disciplined approach to testing, with automated tests as a fundamental part of development.
- Experience working within Agile Scrum methodologies, actively participating in sprint planning, reviews, and retrospectives.
Responsibilities
The core responsibilities for this role encompass the full spectrum of backend development and operational support within an Azure environment:
- Design, develop, and deliver backend services using C#,.NET 6+ and Azure Functions, ensuring scalability and maintainability.
- Create and maintain data access layers, orchestration workflows, and notification services following clean architecture principles and dependency injection patterns.
- Develop and optimize Azure SQL stored procedures, schemas, and query performance to support a mature production database environment.
- Implement event-driven integrations utilizing Azure Service Bus, including message ingestion, transformation, and error handling strategies.
- Design, publish, and consume REST APIs through Azure API Management, ensuring security and compliance standards are met.
- Develop automated unit and integration tests to ensure code quality and facilitate continuous integration processes.
- Own and manage CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps, automating deployment workflows and ensuring reliable releases.
- Monitor live services using Application Insights and Azure Monitor, diagnosing issues proactively and implementing fixes.
- Participate in incident response, root-cause analysis, and technical troubleshooting to maintain system stability and performance.
- Identify and address technical debt, delivering targeted improvements within sprint cycles.
- Collaborate closely with Product Owners to clarify requirements, define acceptance criteria, and ensure technical feasibility.
- Contribute to Agile ceremonies, including sprint planning, stand-ups, reviews, and retrospectives, fostering a collaborative team environment.
