About The Role
For one of our leading clients, we are seeking a highly experienced Senior Software Engineer specializing in Ruby and AI Platform development to join their AI Events team. In this role, you will be instrumental in designing and implementing event-driven infrastructure that powers automated AI workflows across the software development lifecycle. You will work closely with cross-functional teams including engineering, product management, and design to develop scalable, reliable systems that facilitate seamless integration of AI features into existing development tools and platforms. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in Ruby on Rails, large-scale system architecture, and AI integration, with a passion for building innovative solutions that enhance automation and operational efficiency.

- Deep commercial experience with Ruby and Ruby on Rails, particularly within large production monoliths.
- Proven track record in building user-facing products that incorporate Large Language Models (LLMs) and AI integrations.
- Extensive experience designing and operating high-availability, high-throughput large-scale systems.
- Hands-on experience developing agentic systems and workflows enabling AI agents to perform autonomous actions.
- Ability to adapt quickly to evolving AI capabilities and contribute to innovative problem-solving.
- Strong written communication skills, especially for remote collaboration within a globally distributed team.
- Additional experience with Python, developer tooling, or GitLab as a product is advantageous.
Responsibilities
The role encompasses a variety of technical and collaborative responsibilities, including:
- Designing and developing trigger systems that connect GitLab events such as code pushes, merge requests, issue changes, CI/CD results, and deployments to AI-powered workflows.
- Creating integrations for third-party tools like Jira, Jenkins, and Slack to facilitate comprehensive event handling.
- Contributing to the core event platform that determines when and how AI-driven workflows should execute.
- Architecting systems to ensure high availability, reliability, and throughput, capable of processing large volumes of events effectively at scale.
- Maintaining and enhancing production functionality within a substantial Ruby on Rails monolith environment.
- Proposing and implementing iterative solutions to complex technical challenges, influencing product and architectural strategies across multiple service environments.
- Collaborating with engineering, product, design, and AI platform teams to expand trigger capabilities and support the wider ecosystem of AI agents.
- Participating in Tier 2 and Tier 3 on-call rotations to troubleshoot and resolve production, security, and urgent engineering issues promptly.
