About The Role
Gold Group is partnering with a rapidly expanding technology startup that is seeking a skilled Backend Engineer to join their dynamic engineering team in London. This role offers a unique opportunity to work within a high-performance environment where your technical expertise will directly influence the development and evolution of the company's core platform. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining backend systems using Java, Kotlin, and Spring Boot frameworks. Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess a strong technical background with proven experience in backend development. Key qualifications include:
- Recent and substantial commercial experience with Java programming language
- Hands-on experience with Kotlin in a professional setting
- Proficiency in developing with Spring Boot framework
- At least 2 years of experience working within a startup or scale-up environment
- Experience working in small, agile engineering teams with ownership of projects
- Deep understanding of backend architecture, APIs, databases, and distributed systems
- Ability to articulate technical decisions, architecture, and trade-offs effectively
- Experience managing the full development lifecycle from requirements gathering to deployment and maintenance
Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be expected to:
- Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services using Java, Kotlin, and Spring Boot
- Collaborate with product teams to understand requirements and translate them into technical solutions
- Make architectural decisions that optimize performance, reliability, and scalability
- Participate in code reviews, testing, and documentation to ensure high-quality deliverables
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of development processes and best practices
- Identify and resolve technical issues related to backend systems, including performance bottlenecks and scalability challenges
- Work closely with stakeholders to understand business needs and translate them into technical specifications
- Take ownership of key features and ensure their successful delivery from conception to deployment
