Backend Engineer | Agentic Platforms
Up to £80,000 + Benefits

We're partnering with a forward-thinking technology business to hire a Backend Engineer into a growing AI engineering function at the heart of a market-leading consumer platform. The business is actively embedding AI across its engineering workflows and building intelligent, autonomous systems that are shaping how millions of members interact with its product.
As a Backend Engineer, you'll play a critical role in designing, building, deploying, and monitoring AI systems that scale across the business. You'll work cross-functionally with product, data, and platform teams, with a "you build it, you run it" mindset, and a passion for AI-driven innovation that goes beyond theory into production-grade systems.
What you'll be doing:
- Designing, building, and deploying AI systems that scale to millions of users
- Collaborating cross-functionally with product, data, and platform teams to ship high-quality software on a frequent release cadence
- Owning quality through rigorous automated testing and metrics
- Evaluating and selecting the right technical solution for each task, factoring in cost and timelines
- Working hands-on with Gen AI tools and ML frameworks to build and optimise systems for performance, scalability, and reliability
- Contributing to agentic workflows, including autonomous and multi-agent architectures

What we're looking for:
- Proficiency in Python or relevant backend technologies
- Experience with Gen AI tools (LangGraph, CrewAI, Hugging Face, OpenAI APIs, etc.) and ML frameworks such as PyTorch/TensorFlow
- Strong understanding of ML fundamentals (training, evaluation, deployment) and LLM-specific challenges (prompt engineering, latency, cost optimisation)
- Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure) and infrastructure-as-code (Terraform)
- Familiarity with DevOps practices (CI/CD, Docker, K8s) and observability tools (Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog)
- Experience with distributed systems and scaling, plus multiple datastores (SQL and NoSQL)
