Job Description

Backend Engineer (TypeScript, Node.js & AI) – Remote (UK or EU)

We're hiring a Backend Engineer to join a growing FinTech business that is using technology to modernise and simplify complex financial processes for institutional and corporate clients.

This is an opportunity to join a collaborative engineering team working on scalable, high-availability systems that process significant volumes of business-critical data and transactions. You'll contribute to the design, development and evolution of a modern platform, helping to deliver reliable products while influencing technical decisions and engineering standards.

The team embraces AI-assisted software development across the engineering lifecycle and is looking for someone who is comfortable working with modern AI tools and interested in exploring how they can improve productivity, quality and delivery.

The Role

Working within a cross-functional team of engineers, product managers, designers and subject matter experts, you will:

  • Design, build and maintain backend services using TypeScript and Node.js
  • Develop APIs and integrations that support customer-facing and internal products
  • Contribute to architecture discussions and technical decision-making
  • Build scalable, secure and resilient distributed systems
  • Support, improve and extend existing applications and services
  • Work with event-driven architectures and messaging technologies
  • Use AI tools as part of your day-to-day development workflow
  • Contribute to engineering best practices, code quality and continuous improvement initiatives

Experience And Skills

  • Around 3–7 years of commercial software engineering experience
  • Strong experience with Node.js, TypeScript and recent AI & coding agents
  • Experience working with distributed messaging technologies such as Kafka, RabbitMQ, SQS or similar
  • Experience within event-driven and microservices architecture environments
  • Ability to work within a cross-functional, start-up environment
