Ready to rebuild core insurance infrastructure using modern, real-time data instead of outdated legacy systems? At RMG, a dedicated technology recruiting agency, we are supporting an ambitious team overhauling auto insurance through mobile-first telematics, behavioural data, and machine learning. As a Backend Engineer, you will take full technical ownership of scalable APIs, event-driven services, and the core platform powering dynamic risk models and instantaneous customer quotes.
This UK-based remote role includes monthly in-person collaborative sessions to solve complex engineering challenges together, alongside access to a London co-working space for those who prefer an office base.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain high-performance Node.js backend services powering core platform workflows, mobile applications, and partner integrations.
- Architect and scale modern cloud infrastructure on GCP to support high-throughput data pipelines and low-latency systems.
- Partner cross-functionally with product, design, and engineering colleagues to rapidly ship robust, greenfield features.
- Drive engineering standards around Domain-Driven Design, Hexagonal Architecture, and event-driven communication.
- Maintain complete end-to-end ownership of your production services, including system reliability, observability, and participating in shared on-call duties.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
