About The Role
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Lead Backend Engineer to architect and develop our core platform that powers our home life management services. This role involves designing a scalable, reliable, and high-performance backend system that integrates seamlessly with various industry partners, suppliers, and internal components. You will take ownership of the entire backend architecture, ensuring it is optimized for speed, reliability, and security, while supporting live voice interactions and agent-based workflows. Your work will directly impact millions of users, transforming the property and home services industry through innovative AI-driven solutions.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in designing and building large-scale, end-to-end systems with a focus on reliability and performance. Proven experience in backend architecture, particularly with TypeScript, is essential. Familiarity with cloud infrastructure, preferably AWS, and modern development practices including observability, rollback strategies, and continuous deployment are required. Experience working in regulated industries such as property, utilities, or financial services is a plus. Strong problem-solving skills, a systems thinking mindset, and the ability to lead technical initiatives are critical. Candidates should also demonstrate excellent communication skills and a collaborative approach to engineering.

Responsibilities
- Design and architect the backend platform, including data models, APIs, and system integrations, ensuring scalability and reliability for millions of users.
- Implement state machines, contracts, and domain models to manage complex workflows related to property transactions, supplier interactions, and customer journeys.
- Develop and optimize high-performance, low-latency systems capable of supporting live voice features and real-time updates.
- Ensure the platform adheres to best practices in observability, security, and fault tolerance, including rollback rehearsals and small, frequent deployments.
- Collaborate closely with product, AI, and frontend teams to deliver features that meet customer needs and business objectives.
- Lead and mentor engineering team members, fostering a culture of ownership, craftsmanship, and continuous improvement.
- Establish and enforce engineering standards, including idempotency, audit trails, permissioned access, and configuration management.
- Work within a principles-driven environment emphasizing customer obsession, big thinking, action bias, and collaborative ownership.
