Peter Cooks Bread Ltd, founded in 2014, is a craft bakery built on a passion for real bread and a commitment to sharing it with the local community. The bakery is powered by creative, experienced team members who drive new flavors and innovative products. In 2024, the business expanded into a larger bakery in Bromyard with support from the Herefordshire Council Rural Enterprise Fund, enabling further growth and production capacity.

Peter Cooks Bread supplies bread and pastries to delicatessens, farm shops, butchers, cafes, and restaurants across Herefordshire, Worcestershire, Gloucestershire, and Shropshire, as well as through an online shop delivering directly to customers. The company values people who are enthusiastic about high-quality baking and community-focused food.

Role Description

This is a full-time, on-site Baker/Trainee Baker role based at our Bromyard bakery. The Baker/Trainee Baker will prepare and bake a range of breads and pastries, including weighing ingredients, mixing doughs, shaping products, monitoring proofing, and operating ovens. The role includes maintaining high standards of food safety, cleanliness, and hygiene across all work areas.

Day-to-day responsibilities also involve following recipes and production schedules, assisting with new product trials, and ensuring products are consistently high quality for both retail and wholesale customers. The successful candidate will work as part of a small, supportive team, contributing to a smooth production flow and reliable order fulfillment.

Qualifications

  • Ability to follow recipes and instructions accurately, with strong attention to detail and consistency in product quality.
  • Basic baking or kitchen experience (professional or home baking), with a genuine interest in artisan bread and pastries.
  • Good physical stamina and comfort with standing for extended periods, and handling bags of flour and other ingredients.
  • Understanding of, or willingness to learn, food safety, hygiene, and health and safety procedures in a commercial bakery environment.
  • Team-oriented mindset, reliable timekeeping, and a positive, proactive approach to learning and problem-solving.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with colleagues in a fast-paced production setting.
  • Willingness to train and develop skills as a baker; prior bakery or catering experience is beneficial but not essential.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing production needs and occasional weekend or holiday work as required.
