Role Profile

Function – Despatch

Title – Bakery Assistant

Job Statement

The Bakery Assistant in Despatch is responsible for ensuring orders are picked correctly, safely, and in a timely fashion. They will follow all health and safety and food safety regulations and highlight any issues immediately.

Task

  • Accurately case picking according to customer orders.
  • Ensure all picked items match the correct quantity and product specifications.
  • Handle cases with care to prevent damage and maintain quality.
  • Follow health and safety, hygiene, and food safety regulations at all times.
  • Operate warehouse equipment (pallet trucks, hand scanners, etc.) safely and efficiently.
  • Work closely with the despatch team to ensure timely order completion.
  • Assist with stock replenishment, rotation, and general housekeeping.
  • Report any discrepancies, damaged goods, or shortages to the despatch L3 or FLM.
  • Meet daily performance targets while maintaining high accuracy levels.

Skill

Essential:

  • Previous experience in a warehouse or picking/packing role
  • Basic numeracy and literacy skills
  • Ability to follow instructions and work to deadlines
  • Good attention to detail and accuracy
  • Knowledge of food safety and hygiene practices

Desirable:

  • Experience in a food distribution environment
  • Familiarity with using handheld scanners or warehouse management systems
  • Forklift or pallet truck experience (if applicable)
