Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join the team at the Heywood Bakery as a Bakery Operative. We have several shift patterns available. We do operate mainly on a continental shift pattern, however we have one vacancy on a 6am to 14pm shift pattern available (Sunday to Thursday) 36 hours.
This position is key within our manufacturing facility which produces quality food products for our customers.
Rewards are excellent and the hourly rates are reviewed annually. Currently we offer £13.14 per hour (post probation), paid weekly with additional premium pay per shift for hours work during 6pm to 6am, Saturdays and Sundays (other pay rates available following a qualifying period of 12 weeks)
Must be flexible for weekend work and overtime is available at a higher rate per hour.
Duties And Responsibilities:
- Move materials around as needed to complete the main function (i.e., stacking, mixing, packing, etc.)
- Operate equipment as necessary to accomplish tasks and meet targets
- Evaluating hazards, verification of measures and procedures that should be taken to achieve a safe work environment
- Ensuring daily adherence to the Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points (HACCP) and Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA) Regulations

Minimum Job Requirements:
Education/Certifications:
- Secondary School education or equivalent
Experience
- Previous experience in a manufacturing environment preferred
Abilities
- Ability to work in a fast paced environment
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and ability to effectively train others
- Must be able to read work documents in English
- Strong focus on safety and food quality
- Good understanding of plant quality requirements
- Good working knowledge of GMP’s
- Good attendance and work history
- Strong team mentality
Working Conditions And Physical Effort
- Work involves daily exposure to elements such as dirt, dust, fumes, extreme temperatures, humidity, darkness, and/or noise
- Work environment involves daily exposure to physical risks, such as working around mechanical, chemical, and electrical hazards
- Regular exposure to food products and food allergens
- Position requires the ability to stand; walking around office and plant; lifting and carrying packages up to 50 pounds; utilizing fine dexterity and reaching; kneeling, crawling and twisting to inspect equipment. Also requires the ability to see; hear; and communicate with employees as well as others by utilizing professional etiquette
- Personal protective equipment, as defined by CHG, will be provided
