Job Summary
University Hospitals of Birmingham is one of the largest acute hospital Trusts in the country, serving a diverse population across Birmingham, East and North, Solihull, Sutton Coldfield and South Staffordshire. Comprising 4 acute hospital sites (Queen Elizabeth, Heartlands, Good Hope and Solihull), a range of community services and Birmingham Chest Clinic; the Trust also runs several smaller'satellite' units ensuring patients can be treated closer to home.
We are currently seeking to employ a Materials Management Assistant to join a well-established team to undertake all operational duties associated with ordering medical and non-medical goods at the Heartlands site. The post holder will also ensure the goods are delivered to the wards and departments in a timely manner and put away within the agreed location.

Main Duties, Tasks & Skills Required
The post holder will support the delivery of logistics and materials management services across the hospital sites. This will include assisting with day to day materials management activities at ward, department and bulk stock locations to ensure appropriate stock levels are maintained.
- The role will involve receiving, storing, replenishing and distributing medical consumables and other supplies, including ordering stock and non stock items from the UHB Distribution Centre or approved suppliers, in line with local procedures.
- Ensure delivered goods are checked, stored and rotated correctly within ward, department or stock locations, in accordance with stock management procedures.
- Participate in stocktaking and support the investigation of delivery shortages or discrepancies, reporting findings to senior colleagues.
- Support the timely, safe and secure distribution of goods to wards and departments in line with agreed delivery schedules.
- Provide operational cover within receipt and distribution activities when required, ensuring work is carried out in accordance with customer care standards and materials management procedures.
- Use a range of manual handling techniques to move, lift, carry and position stock, consumables and supplies safely in accordance with Trust procedures and training.

The role involves a combination of office based work, time spent in ward stock rooms and receipt and distribution areas, and occasional outdoor working in all weather conditions.

Qualifications
Essential
- GCSEs in English and Mathematics at Grade C/4 or above (or equivalent qualification), or demonstrable equivalent experience gained through work or training.
Experience
Essential
- An understanding of all Stores procedures e.g. stock control, bar coding, system ordering processes.
- Experience in working within a materials management environment example, warehousing / distribution or similar.
Desirable
- Health & Safety Legislation.
Additional Criteria
Essential
- Occasional need to travel to support other sites across University Hospitals Birmingham.
