Job summary
Umbrella Sexual Health Service is a growing specialist service across Birmingham and Solihull covering, Whittall Street Clinic, New Street (Birmingham City Centre), Boots Solihull, Croft Medical Centre (Chelmsley Wood), Erdington, Northfield and Birmingham LGBT. We also have an Outreach Service that covers various locations.
This key role provides secretarial and administrative support to a multi-disciplinary team consisting of Consultants, Doctors, Managers, Nurses etc, ensuring the smooth running of patient pathways.
Responsibilities include managing electronic patient records, monitoring waiting lists, booking appointments. It is essential that the post holder exercises initiative and judgement using acquired skills and Knowledge and always maintains confidentiality.
This is an exciting opportunity to join a specialist service that is continuing to develop with the chance to contribute to ongoing service improvements.
We are looking for an enthusiastic team player who is committed to delivering a high standard of secretarial support and excellent patient service.
Main Duties, Tasks & Skills Required
Main Duties
- Minute takings, transcribing, drafting and completing letters to patients, GP's and other healthcare professionals as required etc.
- To provide a point of contact for GPs and other Health Care Professionals including patients/relatives/carers, addressing other languages or communication barriers.
- To understand the patient pathway and provide information and reassurance in a professional manner.
- Supporting queries and instigate appropriate action, as appropriate to the complex and sensitive nature of the information.
- Knowledge and use of various Microsoft Office Software programmes including Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Access (database) to produce clinical letters and other relevant correspondence. Including the service's electronic patient record systems.
- To manage referrals received into the department in an appropriate way.
- To book follow up appointments.
- To assist with the collection and provision of statistical data as required by the service.

Qualifications
Essential
- Registered Nurse with valid NMC registration
- Evidence of post registration CPD / post registration qualification in appropriate area of speciality or professional knowledge supplemented by specialist experience and short courses to FHEQ Level 6
- Able to evidence how current clinical practice relates to speciality role.
Desirable
- Health Assessment course or equivalent.
- Non-medical prescriber.
- HIV specific qualification or post-registration learning.
- Sexual health or infectious diseases related post-registration learning.
- Knowledge of / completion of NHIVNA HIV Nursing modules.
- Awareness of NHIVNA Person-Centred Model of HIV Nursing.
Experience
Essential
- Evidence and ability to revalidate as required by the NMC
- Significant post registration experience, with evidence of passion / enthusiasm and knowledge for the associated area of specialist practice.
- Has related speciality training evidenced in application.
- Evidence of achievements and career development in current post and of on-going professional development/ competence
- Demonstrate specialist knowledge underpinned by theory and CPD relevant to speciality
- Experience and enthusiasm for teaching/assessing and supervising others in a clinical setting
- Experience of working in a multi-disciplinary and cross agency work environment
- Demonstrate understanding / experience / willingness to be a practice-based supervisor / assessor as detailed in the NMC
- Experience or knowledge of research and audit.

- Experience of clinical research.
- Experience of community/outreach working.
Additional Criteria
Essential
- Is able to relate current clinical practice to the speciality role.
- Shows a clear understanding of the role applied for and suggests a passion for the speciality through application.
- Knowledge and competence in the use of NHS computerised healthcare systems and MS Teams.
Desirable
- NHS Smartcard and Oceano trained.
- PICS/Portal familiarity.
