Job Overview
An opportunity has arisen for an experienced and self-motivated paediatric senior audiology assistant to join the Community Paediatric Audiology Assessment Service. We are a small, busy team of community based paediatric audiologists and senior audiology assistants carrying out diagnostic paediatric hearing assessments in satellite clinical venues in and around Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland.
We are looking for an experienced, self-motivated senior audiology assistant to help deliver a high quality diagnostic assessment service to children aged between 6 months and 19 years in the Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland area.
Applicants will have excellent time management and organisational skills to manage and prioritise demanding workloads and will need to be a flexible team player. You will have excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to work sensitively and effectively with children and families, in addition to being able to work calmly and methodically under pressure.
Please note the following:
- As the role requires travel to a variety of healthcare settings across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland, you will need to be flexible to travel to all delivery sites, to meet the needs of the service, post holders will need to have a full UK driving license and access to a car during working hours.
- This service delivers paediatric assessments only, for children aged from 7 months through to 19 years - there is no rehabilitation element to this role.

Job Description Summary (Main Duties And Responsibilities)
The principle role of this post within the Paediatric Audiology Service is to assist and support qualified paediatric audiologists in the provision and delivery of behavioural and objective diagnostic assessment of babies and young children. This includes:
- Supporting children and families to engage in the assessment process, including management of children with complex needs and/or challenging behaviour during testing
- To independently consider and deliver specific distraction and play activities, based on an individual child’s level of engagement and cognitive ability, in order to manage and maintain their interest and optimal attention levels throughout the testing process.
- To take a joint responsibility with the paediatric audiologist in analysing and evaluating the reliability of a child’s responses to sounds during behavioural testing
- To independently condition a child, through play activities, to enable reliable and secure responses to be gained and accurate audiological threshold information to be established
- To be responsible for the accurate placement of headphones, transducers or inserts used during testing and to ensure this is maintained during the testing process
- Where required, the postholder will undertake autonomous delivery of targeted hearing screening checks, accurately recording and interpreting results and completing a referral into an appropriate diagnostic clinic, following agreed criteria
- To undertake specific organisational and administration duties required in the planning and provision of clinical assessments
- To provide support and supervision to colleagues and learners, as appropriate
