University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a motivated Senior Pharmacy Assistant Technical Officer to join our Out of Hospital Services team at Solihull Hospital. You will work with pharmacy, nursing, and multidisciplinary teams to support safe and effective medicines management across intermediate care and community-based services.
As part of the medicines optimisation team, you will support patient flow, timely access to medicines, medicines safety, and high standards of governance across a range of care settings.

Main Duties, Tasks & Skills Required
As a Senior Pharmacy Assistant Technical Officer within the Out of Hospital Services team, you will support safe, effective, and efficient medicines optimisation across intermediate care and community settings.
Key Responsibilities Include
- Supporting timely access to medicines and pharmaceutical care throughout the patient journey.
- Working with pharmacy, ward, and multidisciplinary teams to promote safe medicines handling.
- Assisting with medicines supply, stock management, and governance activities.
- Supporting medicines safety audits, monitoring, and service improvement.
- Expediting urgent prescriptions, medicines supplies, and discharge medication to support patient flow.
- Providing advice and support to healthcare staff on medicines management processes.
- Assisting with the storage, transportation, and monitoring of medicines in line with legal requirements.
- Supporting staff training, induction, and education.
- Contributing to audits and quality improvement projects.

You will need a recognised pharmacy services qualification, excellent attention to detail, strong organisational skills, and the ability to prioritise effectively in a busy environment.

Qualifications
Essential
- GCSE grade C/4 or above in Mathematics and English (or equivalent)
- NVQ level 2 Certificate in Pharmacy Service Skills (QCF), BTEC Level 2 Certificate in Pharmaceutical Science
or
- Accredited Dispensing Assistants Course (NPA)
Experience
Essential
- Post NVQ level 2 qualification developmental experience of a range of dispensing with formal training and annual revalidated accreditation as a dispenser
- Understanding of pharmacy-related computer systems
- Understanding of Health and Safety at Work, manual handling, and COSHH
- Understanding of dispensing, stock control, and supply systems and processes
- Knowledge of stock control systems
- Knowledge of code of practice/customer care
- Understands the need for delivering a cost-effective service and the required work practices to reduce waste
Desirable
- Previous experience within a hospital pharmacy setting
- Experience in staff training
- Working knowledge of JAC pharmacy system
- Knowledge of drugs, side effects, and where to find further information
