Job Summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a part-time Senior Therapy Assistant to join the Neurosciences team within Therapy Services at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham. The post is 18.75 hours -- shift patterns can be discussed.
The successful post holder will support the acute rehabilitation and discharge planning of patients across the inpatient wards, working alongside a team of registered Physiotherapists and Occupational Therapists. The successful candidate will work closely with other Therapy Assistants to ensure there are appropriate and skilled management of patients' physical and cognitive needs, as outlined by the registered therapists on the ward.
This is an ideal opportunity for someone who wishes to develop their clinical knowledge and skills to support patients to optimise their independence while in hospital and on discharge. The ideal candidate should have good communication, interpersonal, and organisational skills, and should be able to demonstrate initiative in managing their own caseload.
The ability to work as part of a team is essential to this post, as well as to be able to work to an assigned caseload independently.
You will be supported with regular supervision, learning opportunities, competency handbook, and in-service training.

Main Duties, Tasks & Skills Required
To provide skilled support to the therapy Neurosciences team and assist registered therapy staff to provide an effective and efficient patient-centred service.
The post holder will have a prescribed caseload and will work within agreed treatment plans, protocols, and policies without direct supervision.

You will be supported to manage an appropriate caseload independently, within the scope of your practice, and to communicate your clinical reasoning, observations, and patient progress clearly to a registered therapist.
There will be a strong focus on rehabilitating patients with neurological conditions and diagnoses to enable safe and timely discharge from hospital or to the next appropriate setting.

Person specification
Qualifications
Essential
- English and Maths Level 4 or equivalent or functional skills Level 2.
- Evidence of personal development related to healthcare.
Desirable
- Assistant membership of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy, Royal College of Occupational Therapy, or other relevant professional body.

Experience
Essential
- Significant experience as a Therapy Assistant within an inpatient setting.
- Able to work independently with guidance.
- A knowledge of the aims and principles of occupational therapy/physiotherapy.
- An understanding of the implications of illness and disability on function and health and basic aims of rehabilitation and discharge planning.
- An understanding of safe provision and use of patient equipment in this area.
- An understanding of confidentiality and data protection in healthcare.
Desirable
- Experience of working as a Band 3 Therapy Assistant.
- Experience of working in Neurology, Neurosurgery, Stroke, or with clients with physical and/or cognitive impairment.
- An understanding of working on acute hospital wards/experience of working in an acute health setting.
