Job Summary
We are looking for a motivated, enthusiastic, and innovative Band 4 therapy support worker to work with an inspiring multidisciplinary team; including Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists (OT), Speech and Language Therapist. The role will involve supporting patients following long hospital admissions, including time in critical care.
You will work in an outpatient and community setting undertaking a variety of duties with guidance and be responsible for an agreed caseload.
Training to develop competence in a variety of OT and Physiotherapy assessments/treatments will be provided. You will be key in supporting assessment and rehabilitation of patients presenting with symptoms of deconditioning, breathlessness, and fatigue.
The role includes triaging of patients, therapeutic interventions, home visits, exercise group support. You will demonstrate an ability to work with patients with a wide range of conditions. Good clinical and interpersonal skills and multi-disciplinary team working are essential. The ability to travel independently between locations is essential.
We are a teaching trust committed to continued professional and career development of all staff.
Supporting evening sessions is required as part of this role. Full-time and part-time applications will be considered.

Main Duties, Tasks & Skills Required
The role includes:
- Triaging of patients
- Therapeutic interventions to aid improvement in mobility/return to functional activity
- Decreasing impact of fatigue on day-to-day life
- Managing breathlessness in patients
- Home visits
- Exercise group support
Throughout all components, supporting and motivating patients to engage and being mindful of the difficult time they have been through or chronicity of their conditions.

Person Specification
Qualifications
Essential
- Education to GCSE level or equivalent including English and maths at grade C or above.
- Able to demonstrate competence in maths and written and spoken English.
- Educated to A Level or equivalent.
- Practical and teaching knowledge equivalent to NVQ Level 3, with additional knowledge of skills development and experience of group working with the relevant client group, to diploma-equivalent level.
- Care certificate or be willing to work towards this.
Desirable
- Evidence of recent education/personal development related to healthcare.
- Demonstrated has been proactive with continuing professional development.
Experience
Essential
- Comprehensive experience supporting therapists in a relevant clinical setting.
- Experience of delivering rehabilitation programmes across a variety of clinical settings with evidence of MDT collaboration.
- Can demonstrate an in-depth understanding of relevant areas of therapy, the effect of illness/clinical conditions/disability on function and health, and basic aims of rehabilitation.
- Comprehensive understanding of the role of therapy support worker in the relevant area.
- Understanding of confidentiality and data protection in healthcare.
Desirable
- Experience of communicating with and motivating patients who may have communication difficulties.
- Good understanding of community work or rehabilitation interventions.
- Good understanding of working environment -- healthcare/NHS/UHB trust/acute care/community as applicable.
Additional Criteria
Essential
- Evidence of well-developed IT skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Good clinical reasoning skills.
- Confidence to feedback to the multi-disciplinary team in a formal setting and to communicate effectively with a wide variety of other professionals to represent therapies internally and externally.
- Able to communicate information and instructions to patients/carers/relatives who have communication difficulties of English as a second language.
- Evidence of being able to work effectively as part of a team/across teams.
- Physical skills, fitness, dexterity, and coordination needed for manual handling and treatment of patients.
- Good IT and Keyboard skills.
- Excellent organizational and prioritization skills.
- Able to understand the priorities within team/service, respond appropriately.
- Able to solve problems and contribute own ideas seeking guidance if necessary.
- Able to follow instructions.
- Motivated to learn new skills.
- Able to work as part of an interdisciplinary team.
- Enthusiasm to work as therapy support worker within the team.
- Ability to take responsibility under guidance.
- Know own limitations and role boundaries.
- Able to seek support from others when required.
- Able to deal with potentially upsetting clinical settings/situations.
