Are you an ambitious, patient-focused Pharmacy Technician looking to make a difference beyond the hospital setting?
University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust is seeking an enthusiastic Clinical Pharmacy Technician to join our Out of Hospital Services team at Solihull Hospital. You will work across intermediate care services in Solihull, supporting patients as they move between hospital, community, and social care.
As part of our medicine's optimisation team, you will help improve patient outcomes, support the safe and effective use of medicines, reduce waste, and promote seamless pharmaceutical care. You will work closely with pharmacists, nursing teams, primary care, social care, and community providers.
This role is ideal for a Pharmacy Technician who enjoys working autonomously, building strong relationships, and contributing to service improvement. We offer structured training, leadership opportunities, and access to development programmes across UHB.

Main Duties, Tasks & Skills Required
As a Clinical Pharmacy Technician in the Out of Hospital Services team, you will provide medicines optimisation support to intermediate care services across Solihull, helping ensure safe, effective, and high-quality pharmaceutical care.
Key Responsibilities Include
- Undertaking medicines optimisation monitoring visits.
- Supporting safe ordering, storage, handling, administration, recording, and disposal of medicines.
- Working with pharmacists, nurses, social care, prescribing teams, and community providers to improve patient outcomes.
- Identifying opportunities to improve medicines safety, reduce waste, and support cost-effective prescribing.
- Investigating medication incidents and contributing to audits, quality improvement, and service development.
- Producing clear visit reports, recommendations, and action plans.
- Providing training, advice, and support to healthcare and social care staff.
- Supporting patients with medicines-related needs, independence, understanding, and safe transitions of care.
You must be a registered Pharmacy Technician with an Accredited Checking qualification, significant pharmacy experience, and excellent communication skills. You will be organised, proactive, and able to work independently while building effective stakeholder relationships.

Qualifications
Essential
- Must Have The Following
- Professional Registration with the GPhC.
- Dispensing Accuracy Accreditation. West Midland's scheme or equivalent.
- Evidence of Continued Professional Development.
- Accredited Checking Technician (National Framework) or equivalent.
Plus One Of The Following
- Level 3 Diploma in Principles and Practice for Pharmacy Technicians
- OR
- BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Pharmaceutical Science and Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Pharmacy Service Skills
- OR
- equivalent as defined by the General Pharmaceutical Council
Desirable
- Accredited Checking Technician (National Framework)
Experience
Essential
- Experience in Pharmacy pre-qualification
- Currently practicing as a band 4 pharmacy technician / equivalent or above with post-qualification experience within an acute setting
- The ability to demonstrate the equivalent level of knowledge and the relevant practical experience for the post
- Significant experience within a pharmacy setting
- Experience of the specialist function for the area of responsibility
- Experience of organising other grades of staff and their workload
- Experienced in working to policies and procedures
- Significant experience within a hospital pharmacy setting
- Understanding of Good Distribution Practice (GDP)
- Health and Safety at Work and COSHH
- Understanding of dispensing, stock control, supply, and I.T systems and processes
- Knowledge of Code of Practice / Customer Care
- Knowledge of medicines, side effects, and where to find further information
- Knowledge of practices, policies, and procedures associated with the job
- Understands the need for delivering a cost-effective service and the required work practices to reduce waste
Desirable
- Experience working as a Clinical Pharmacy Technician or similar capacity
- Deputising for senior personnel, coordinating daily work flow including situational staff management
- Experience in setting up new working practices or procedures
- Participation in the training and mentoring of staff
- Understanding of ward environment
