An Exciting Opportunity

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join an established team of Community Children’s Nurses in Birmingham. This is a city-wide service that offers specialist nursing support to children & families with a variety of complex physical health needs.

We provide clinical interventions to children within their own homes, schools, and other community locations. The service operates seven days a week and also provides an out-of-hours ‘on-call’ service.

You may be who we are looking for to join our busy team. This post will provide the successful candidate with the opportunity to develop rewarding therapeutic relationships with children & families in a community setting.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Follow the NMC Code and professional standards and take responsibility for your work.
  • Provide safe, skilled, and evidence-based nursing care to children at home and in community settings.
  • Give health advice and education to children and families to support healthy lifestyles.
  • Help teach families, carers, and other professionals so that care is provided safely and effectively.
  • Carry out risk assessments in children’s homes.
  • Get informed consent from children, parents, or carers before providing care.
  • Keep accurate, clear, and up-to-date records of all care provided.
  • Work closely with hospitals, GPs, community healthcare teams, and other services when needed.
  • Be flexible to meet the needs of the service.
  • Always maintain a professional attitude and follow NMC standards and the organisation's policies.
  • Work independently and safely while following BCHC guidelines and policies.
  • Travel to visit children and families within the Birmingham area.
  • Keep your knowledge and nursing skills up to date.
  • Take part in professional development and mandatory training required by the NMC and organisation.
  • Support the teaching and mentoring of other staff.
  • Take part in research and clinical audits related to the service.
  • Help maintain high standards of care and patient safety through good clinical governance.
  • Report any concerns or risks to the Team Leader, senior nurse, or manager.
