Band 5 Pharmacy Technician (Locum) – Immediate Start

Location: LD3 0LU (Covering multiple hospital sites)
Job Type: Temporary, Full-Time (37.5 hours per week)
Contract: Immediate start until the end of October 2026
Sector: NHS Hospital
Pay Rate: £17.00 per hour PAYE or £21.00 per hour (Self-Employed)

About the Role

We are recruiting for an experienced Band 5 Pharmacy Technician to join an NHS hospital team on a full-time locum basis with an immediate start. This temporary contract is available until the end of October 2026.

Working within ward environments, you will provide pharmacy support across medical, care of the elderly, and older adult mental health wards, delivering high-quality medicines management services as part of a multidisciplinary team.

This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated Pharmacy Technician looking to work in a supportive hospital environment with no weekend or on-call commitments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver medicines management services within ward environments.
  • Independently undertake medicines reconciliation and patient medication history reviews.
  • Assess and manage patients' own medicines.
  • Support safe and effective medicines discharge processes.
  • Supervise and support Pharmacy Assistant staff where required.
  • Undertake ward-level dispensing duties.
  • Work collaboratively with clinical teams to optimise patient care.
  • Support the implementation and use of electronic prescribing and medicines administration (ePMA) systems.
  • Maintain accurate patient records and comply with all NHS and professional standards.

Essential Requirements

  • Current registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).
  • A minimum of 6 months' UK experience working as a Pharmacy Technician in a hospital or similar clinical setting.
  • Medicines Management Accreditation.
  • Ability to independently complete medicines reconciliation and patient medicines assessments.
  • Experience managing medicines discharges.
  • Enhanced DBS (Adults) or willingness to obtain one.
  • Excellent communication, organisational and teamwork skills.

Desirable

  • Accredited Checking Pharmacy Technician (ACPT) qualification.
  • Experience using BetterMeds or another electronic prescribing and medicines administration (ePMA) system.
  • Previous NHS ward-based pharmacy experience.

Working Hours

  • 37.5 hours per week
  • Monday to Friday
  • 7.5-hour shifts with flexibility between 8:00am and 6:00pm
  • No weekend or on-call working

Locations Covered

The successful candidate will be required to work across the following hospital sites:

  • Brecon Hospital
  • Ystradgynlais Hospital
  • Bronllys Hospital
  • Llandrindod Hospital

Travel between sites may be required by mutual agreement, with mileage and travel time reimbursed in line with NHS Terms and Conditions.

Additional Information

  • Immediate start available.
  • Temporary contract running until the end of October 2026.
  • Full training on the BetterMeds ePMA system can be provided if required.
  • Please note that accommodation is not provided, although advice on local accommodation options may be available.
