The HGS hospitals (part of University Hospitals Birmingham) Cardiology department currently spans three hospital sites, Birmingham Heartlands, Solihull, and Good Hope Hospitals.

We are currently looking to fill 2 vacancies for full-time Band 5 nurses in the cardiac catheter lab. You will be expected to work across all three sites when required and participate in weekend/overnight on-call as necessary at BHH. As a Band 5 staff nurse in cardiology, you will have the following specialist cardiology nursing skills, including:
- To be responsible for the delivery of patient-centered care, ensuring patient care and safety.
- To work in the cardiac catheter lab, deliver specialist care, and share knowledge with acute medical nursing teams, patients, and relatives.
Main Duties, Tasks & Skills Required
We currently have a vacancy for a full-time Band 5 nurse in the cardiac catheter lab. You will be expected to work across all three sites when required and participate in weekend/overnight on-call as necessary at BHH. As a Band 5 staff nurse in cardiology, you will have the following specialist cardiology nursing skills, including:

- To work in the cardiac catheter lab, deliver specialist care, and share knowledge with acute medical nursing teams, patients, and relatives.

Qualifications
Essential
- Evidence of professional and clinical knowledge acquired through training to degree/diploma level leading to Professional registration on the appropriate part of the NMC register, i.e., Adult / Child / Learning Disability or Mental Health.
- Evidence of undergraduate education for newly qualified nurses or postgraduate continuing professional development for registered nurses who have post-registration experience.
Experience
Essential
- Previous/recent experience or working in an acute secondary health and care setting (can include undergraduate student placements within the last 12 months).
- Willingness to become a practice supervisor/assessor or meets Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) standards for student supervision and assessment.
- Demonstrable understanding and knowledge of the NMC code of conduct and the proficiencies and standards for registered nurses, can apply this to undergraduate training or postgraduate practice.
- Being an accountable professional.
- Promoting health and preventing ill health.
- Assessing needs and planning care.
- Providing and evaluating care.
- Leading and managing nursing care and working in teams, including prioritization and delegation skills.
- Coordinating care and responding to deteriorating health.
- Improving safety and quality of care.
- Awareness of current relevant clinical and professional issues and NHS policy.
- Understanding/experience of the principles of Safeguarding and Mental Capacity.
- Awareness of Health and Safety issues.
Desirable
- Experience in working in an Acute NHS practice setting as an undergraduate student nurse or post-graduate registered nurse.
Additional Criteria
Essential
- Demonstrable communication and relationship management skills which include listening, writing, reading, speaking in English with an understanding of contemporaneous record keeping.
- Good IT skills, ability to record information electronically.
- Competent in a range of clinical skills/nursing procedures, willingness to undertake expanded practices relevant to the scope of practice required.
- Competent in managing the care of a group of patients/shift management (take charge of the practice setting in the absence of more senior staff) relevant to the practice setting.
- Professional appearance.
- Displays genuine interest in the post applied for.
- Positive and enthusiastic attitude.
- Caring and approachable.
- Ability to work a varied shift pattern including nights/weekends/unsocial hours where required.
- The applicant can describe why the Trust may deploy him/her to a different practice setting for a span of duty.
