Poppy and Bluebell Units
Poppy Unit is a 20-bedded mixed acute unit and Bluebell Unit is a 4-bedded place of safety suite located in the heart of Wiltshire. We work with a range of service users who are presenting as acutely unwell and in crises.
About the Opportunity
We are looking for professional and enthusiastic nurses to come and work with our wonderful team of qualified nurses, HCA's, Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, Exercise Specialists, Activities Coordinator, and Doctors.
Role Description
As a Band 6 Nurse, you will be expected to:
- Coordinate shifts
- Risk assess
- Show clinical leadership
- Implement Quality Improvement projects
- Act up into the Band 7 role in the absence of a Band 7
Skilled management and clinical work within Poppy and Bluebell can be rewarding. You will receive regular supervision within the team.

Key Responsibilities
- Provide clear clinical leadership to Staff Nurses and Mental Health Assistants working on the ward.
- Ensure the continuity of care for service users and full implementation of Trust policies.
- Supervise Band 5 staff and below in developing, implementing, and assessing individual programmes of care.
- Undertake appraisals, clinical supervision, and teaching.
- Responsible for specific "management duties" within the ward, which are commensurate with their grade. Provide general management in the absence of the Ward Manager.
- Undertake a comprehensive, person-centred, nursing assessment and prepare care plans in consultation with the service users to provide the best nursing care.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of care provided in partnership with users.
- Ability to undertake risk assessment and develop risk management strategies for individual clients; ICPA/SAP to people who present with mental health problems.
- Demonstrate a working knowledge of the key elements of relevant Mental Health Legislation.
- Ensure the ordering, storage, administration, and disposal of medication complies with relevant trust and legislative guidance e.g. NMC Standards for Medicines Management 2010, Misuse of Drugs Act 1971, and MHA (1983).
