Charge Nurse for Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT) Service

Are you an experienced Mental Health Nurse looking to develop your leadership skills within a specialist and highly rewarding service?

We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Band 6 Charge Nurse to join our Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT) Service based at the Julian Hospital, Norwich. This is an exciting opportunity to become a senior member of a specialist multidisciplinary team delivering ECT treatment for adults experiencing severe and complex mental health difficulties.

Working alongside Consultant Psychiatrists, Anaesthetists, Operating Department Practitioners and nursing colleagues, you will provide clinical leadership, coordinate the day-to-day running of the clinic and ensure the delivery of safe, effective and compassionate care throughout the patient's treatment journey.

This role offers the opportunity to develop specialist skills within ECT whilst supporting service development, governance and quality improvement activities.

As the Charge Nurse for the ECT Service, you will provide senior clinical leadership and operational coordination within the clinic.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leading and coordinating the nursing team during ECT clinics.
  • Ensuring the delivery of safe, effective and patient-centred care.
  • Supporting patients and relatives throughout the treatment pathway.
  • Undertaking comprehensive physical and mental health assessments.
  • Monitoring patients before, during and following treatment.
  • Supporting Consultant Psychiatrists, Anaesthetists and other multidisciplinary team members during ECT procedures.
  • Maintaining high standards of clinical documentation and record keeping.
  • Providing clinical supervision, support and leadership to nursing colleagues.
  • Promoting compliance with national ECT standards, Trust policies and governance requirements.
  • Contributing to audit, service development and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Supporting workforce development, training and competency assessment within the service.

The ECT Service at Julian Hospital provides specialist treatment for individuals experiencing severe mental illness where ECT has been identified as an appropriate treatment option.

The team consists of Consultant Psychiatrists, Anaesthetists, Operating Department Practitioners and experienced Mental Health Nurses who work collaboratively to deliver high-quality care in a supportive and professional environment.

As a small and specialised team, we value strong working relationships, compassionate patient care and continuous learning. Patients often attend the service twice weekly over a number of weeks, providing opportunities to develop therapeutic relationships and support both patients and their families throughout treatment.
