Job Summary

The post holder is responsible for the assessment of care needs and the development, implementation, and evaluation of programs of care with the multidisciplinary team and patients’ families.

As a Junior Sister/Charge Nurse you will be required to support the senior and junior team in ensuring the needs of our patients are met through the delivery of high-quality care. The role involves working as part of a large multidisciplinary team including the ED medical team, clinical practice educators, safeguarding, mental health liaison team and clinical specialties. The Junior Sister/Charge Nurse works clinically including unsocial hours and will be expected to work competently in all areas of the Emergency Department as well as being able to independently take charge of them.

The Junior Sister/Charge Nurse will assist their Team leader with managing their own team of nurses and ensuring they meet their potential. You will also be responsible for link roles giving you the opportunity to drive change and improve standards.

• To demonstrate advanced clinical expertise in the care of patients receiving emergency or clinically urgent treatment in the department.
• To assess, plan, implement and evaluate the needs of patients on an ongoing basis, coordinating the care given by all members of the clinical team.
• To accurately assess and interpret clinical information about the patient’s condition prior to medical intervention.
• To instigate appropriate emergency treatment and promptly report change.
• To manage the clinical workload effectively, ensuring care is prioritized appropriately.
• To be actively involved with the ongoing organization of the department, including liaison with clinical site managers to ensure optimal bed usage at all times, paediatric teams and the ED management team facilitating timely admission and discharge of patients instigating escalation policies as necessary.
• To assist the team Leader with an identified group of staff, monitoring and documenting the development of their clinical skills, and recording workforce information.
• To assist Team Leaders, Matrons and Head of Nursing in recruitment and retention, sickness management and performance management and develop own skills as required.
