Role Description
The Band 6 Retail Development Manager is a full-time, on-site role based in Cardiff, responsible for overseeing and developing retail services within the Health Board’s estate. Day-to-day activities include managing retail operations, analyzing performance data, and identifying opportunities to improve service quality, profitability, and user experience. The role involves working with internal stakeholders and external partners to plan and implement new retail initiatives, optimize product ranges, and ensure compliance with NHS policies and relevant regulations. The Retail Development Manager will monitor budgets, support contract management, and contribute to business cases and reports. This role also includes supervising and supporting retail staff, promoting a positive culture, and ensuring that retail services align with patient, visitor, and staff needs.

- Demonstrated experience in retail management or commercial development, preferably within a healthcare, public sector, or complex multi-site environment.
- Strong skills in business planning, financial analysis, and budgeting, with the ability to interpret performance data and inform strategic decisions.
- Proficiency in stakeholder engagement, relationship management, and negotiation, with the ability to collaborate across clinical, corporate, and external partner teams.
- Competence in project management, including planning, implementation, and evaluation of service improvements or new retail initiatives.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and report-writing skills, with the ability to convey complex information clearly to diverse audiences.
- Evidence of leadership and people management skills, including staff supervision, performance management, and team development.
- Understanding of NHS environments, governance, and regulatory requirements related to commercial and retail services is highly beneficial.
- Relevant qualification in business, retail management, marketing, or a related field, or equivalent experience at a comparable level.
- Strong IT skills, including use of standard office software and retail or financial management systems.
